The Salt Lake City-based group was cited for its involvement in the annual ALT LAKE CITY — Restaurateurs who strongly support the annual Salute to Our Nation's Defenders picnic at Hill AFB have been honored by the National Restaurant Association. Gastronomy picnic at the base, which recognizes the sacrifices of the area's military troops and their families. To bring home astronomy's level of commitment to the picnic, employees prepare 600 pounds of potato salad, 2,800 pounds of beef brisket and 4,000 pounds of chicken (two tons) to feed those attending. The event attracts about 2,500 military personnel and their families, and is largely underwritten by Gastronomy. Snowboard and ski lessons, snowmobiling offered Sign up for ski and snowboard lessons held at Powder Mountain through Outdoor Recreation beginning Dec. 16. Cost is $140 for ski lessons and $150 for snowboard lessons. That includes three lessons, lift passes, boots, skis and poles and snowboard. Students must provide their own transportation to the ski area. Lessons must be booked through Outdoor Recreation. Group lessons start at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Group lessons are taught seven days a week. Lessons are two hours long regardless of the number of students in the class. Minimum age is 10 years old, and parents do not have to accompany their child. Carter Creek Snowmobile trips are planned for Jan. 19-20, Jan. 25-26, Jan. 26-27, Feb. 2-3, Feb. 22-23 and Feb. 23-24. Also, March 1-2, March 15-16, March 21-22 and March 22-23. The North Slope of the Uintah Mountains offers some of the best snowmobiling in the country along with breathtaking scenery and unsurpassed snow. Cost is $108 per person riding single and $88 per person riding double plus $40 per cabin (cabins sleep 1-5 people). Participants must be 18 or older to drive the snowmobiles and children must be at least 7 years old to ride double with an adult. Cost includes transportation, snowmobiling for two half days, trip leader and one tank of gas and oil. Participants must bring warm winter clothing in layers, sleeping bags, personal items, food for two lunches, one dinner and one breakfast, water and water bottle or canteen. You must be able to fit all of your gear into one large duffel bag or suitcase that you will snowmobile into camp, and each group can bring one small cooler. You will also need to bring money to gas-up your snowmobile on the second day — usually $15 - $20. Yellowstone snowmobile trips are scheduled for Jan. 11-13, Feb. 15-17 and March 7-9. Lodging at the Three Bear Lodge in West Yellowstone, Mont. (1-800-646-7353). Reserved are 10 rooms and 20 snowmobiles for this trip. Due to the park rules, there are a limiteded number of snowmobiles, so sign up early. Children ages 8-17 must be accompanied by a parent. Participants must be at least 16 and have a valid driver's license to drive a snowmobile. Please carry your driver's license with you. Customers must provide money for lunch on the way up and $15 park entrance fee if going into Yellowstone National Park. If bringing own clothing, please include warm gloves, clothes in layers, and warm boots. Temperatures can get extremely cold. Yellowstone Cross Country ski trips are planned for Jan. 11-13, Feb. 15-17 and March 7-9. Single occupancy is $269 per person, double occupancy $205 per person. Enjoy the groomed trails of West Yellowstone, Mont. Cross country ski on trails that are easy and difficult. These are well marked trails that begin in West Yellowstone. Skis can be l'ented from Outdoor Recreation or you can rent them in West Yellowstone. This is a self-guided tour. Cost includes lodging, two dinners, one lunch, two breakfasts, movie ticket, and ticket to the Grizzly Discovery Center. Lodging at the Three Bear Lodge in West Yellowstone, Mont. (1-800646-7353). The Dec. 25, Christmas Day Buffet, is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is open to active duty military SIK and BAS members, their immediate families, and military retirees and their immediate families. This meal is served by the base leadership. DoD meal rates apply. For information, call 777-3686. Parents' night out The Child Development Center is giving parents a break and a parents' night out. Give Parents A Break is free child care for active duty families and requires a referral and AF Form 1181. The Child Development Center takes children ages 6 weeks-5 years old and the Youth Center takes children ages 6-12 years old. Referrals are available at the Airmen and Family Readiness Center. Parents Night Out is $15 per child, with a completed AF Form 1181 and does not require a referral. Give Parents A Break & Parents Night Out is generally the second Saturday of each month.
