Show HILLTOP TIMES 'WHAT'S THE COUNT?' Meet the commander of the 388th MOS TIMES August 9, 2007 BY SENIOR AIRMAN STEFANIE TORRES 388th Fighter Wing Public Affairs T o introduce388th commanders new to the wing, 388th Fighter Wing public affairs asks six standard questions so their airmen can have a little bit of information about who they work for and where they come from. Maj. Alex Dubovik recently took command of the 388th Maintenance Operations Squadron. Where is your hometown? Lake In The Hills, 111., (about 45 miles northwest of Chicago). Do you have any family out here? My wife, Nova, and three children,-Brandon, Nicholas and Hailee. How do you spend your offduty time? Anything I can do with my family — hiking, fishing, skiing, camping, biking. In the past I've enjoyed house remodeling, but I bought a newer home here to have more time for family activities. The highlight of my day is usually dinnertime, watching the kids interact — they're very entertaining. What are your personal goals for 388th MOS? To provide this outstanding team all the resources it needs to accomplish the mission, both at home and deployed. To provide squadron members the leadership, training and career opportunities to maximize their potential both personally and professionally. To provide wing leadership with worldclass support, information and products that are accurate, relevant and Dubovik comprehensive. What challenges do you see as the new MOS commander? To spin up quickly, learn my folks' names, and to learn my job so I can be a competent representative and leader. What advice do you have for airmen who want to make the AF their career? Learn your job and become the expert. Learn about the Air Force culture, our mission, history and the sense of family that permeates our community, then insert yourself into the middle of it. Take advantage of the opportunities at your fingertips — education, travel, etc. Don't sit in your dorm room — get involved. Seek leadership opportunities, no matter how small — they help you hone the skills you'll be using as you move up through the ranks. Realize it's a privilege to be a part of our Air Force family and that you are presently in the company of citizens of the highest caliber anywhere. The price of admission rests within the U.S. Air Force core values. AIRMAN 1st CLASS CLAY MURRAY/U.S. Air Force A member of the Civil Engineer Softball Team takes a swing during the Hill Air Force Base Intramural Competition League Championship. His team faced off against Ammo on Aug. 6. The CE Team, which advanced from the loser's bracket, won the first game 14-11. The Ammo Team won the second game 26-24 securing the championship. Members of the Ammo Team are looking forward to competing in a community league in Layton in the fall. RED From 1 Wayman, who hopes to launch the campaign in as many communities in Weber and Davis Counties as possible, has even designed his own line of red T-shirts "I just wanted to do something special for our troops, so I designed a shirt," he said. "But, there is no mandatory requirement to purchase these T-shirts, or anyone else's. We just want people to start wearing their red on Fridays." The money generated from Wayman's T-shirt sales will go toward a fundraising banquet scheduled for November. "We receive no state, local or federal funding so all costs associated with the banquet will be covered with private funds," Wayman said. "We are doing that through sales of the T-shirts and other fundraising efforts like car washes." The banquet is tentatively planned to be held at the Davis Conference Center in Layton, or at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center. Donations from the banquet will be collected and turned over to the Red Cross to meet the needs of military families within the state. "Having the Red Cross involved is great because it will ensure that those military families in need will be identified, and that the proceeds are distributed fairly and equitably," Wayman said. Notification of the banquet will be made when all times and dates have been secured.
