"The program's ideals remain consistent," said Master Sgt. Cecilia Brandt, Hill's AADD president, "to save lives and careers while protecting the community from an unintended injury or damage potentially caused by a person driving under the influence." The Hill AADD program is regularly available every Friday and Saturday from 9 p.m.-3 a.m. Additional coverage will be provided for the night before holidays and family days, and Sunday all-nighters during regular hours of BYJSTLT ^ 75th Air Base Wing Public Affairs According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an alcohol-related crash occurs every 32 minutes in the United States. Statistically, Memorial weekend is ranked fifth out of 13 major United States celebrated events where drunk driving is rampant—just barely beat out by New Years Day, Super Bowl Sunday, Labor Day, Halloween and Independence Day. Of the 282 traffic accidents with deaths in Utah in 2005, 13 percent were alcohol related. Most Air Force installations have programs targeted to assist Airmen from making a mistake that may haunt age public or private property, landscape and wildlife. "A person making the decision to drink and drive may not see danger to themselves, the fact is their reaction times are slowed, and that puts others at risk, whether in another motor vehicle, on a bike, or a pedestrian," Chief Gurney said. "As commendable as our AADD volunteers' efforts are, they cannot keep all intoxicated drivers off the road. That requires everyone's involvement beyond organizational activism," said Sergeant Brandt.
