Individuals can significantly boost their steps by doing things as simple as parking farther away from stores or taking their children or dog for a walk. • Moderately active lifestyle equates to 6,001-8,000 steps per day. People in this range are getting some activity but not enough to gain the benefits of an active lifestyle. Their activity can be increased, for example, by taking the stairs whenever possible or putting time aside after meals for a walk. • Active lifestyle involves 8,00111,000 steps per day. Since activity already is present, consider spicing things up a bit with some type of group exercise or sport. Those who decide to keep walking might increase their walking distance with the same intensity or, increase the intensity of their exercise. • Very active lifestyle involves 11,001-20,000 steps per day. Individuals in this category who are not already engaged in more challenging activities might consider jogging, cycling or team sports.
