Main • University of Utah scholarships, internships The University of Utah and Utah businessman Molonai Hola announced Oct. 19 the creation of 20 scholarships and 15 internships for Pacific Islander students. In addition, Mr. Hola will join with the university to fund a research project examining the demographics of Utah's Pacific Islander community. The scholarships will be funded by a $20,000 per year gift, over a period of five years, from Mr. Hola, with matching funds from each of the university's colleges or departments holding the scholarships: science, business, economics, political science, architecture + planning, and student affairs. They will be awarded to qualifying freshmen, sophomore, and junior Pacific Islander students. The research project, which will be conducted by the university's Department of Economics, and the Center for Public Pol- • Veterans Day celebrations The University of Utah's 9th annual Veterans Day Commemoration is scheduled for Friday. The event opens at 8:45 a.m. with a panel discussion - "Submarines in Battle" -in the Panorama East Room, Olpin Union Bldg. At 11 a.m., 12 veterans will be presented with honorary medallions during a full dress military ceremony in the Union Ballroom, followed by a 21-canon salute. Many former honorees will also be in attendance and recognized during the ceremony. New this year is a special big band performance that begins shortly after the ceremony at 1 p.m., featuring the Joe Muscolino band and singers and dancers in a show reminiscent of the classic Hollywood-style "canteen" USO tours of World War II.
