Manning overseas units at higher levels increases PCS moves and the costs associated with them. Air Force officials now will be more amenable to extending officers who want to stay longer at an overseas tour and will look closer than they have in the past at officers who want to shorten their overseas tours, General Brady said. Air Force officials have other reasons for limiting the number of officer PCS moves. One of those reasons is recouping the cost of the moves and applying that funding in other places. "We have budgetary issues in a lot of areas: fighting the global war on terror, high ops tempo, ageing aircraft fleets and growing manpower costs," the general said. General Brady said more effective management of officer moves will better help their professional development, and also will free up funding so it can be applied lo winning the war on terrorism and to recapitalizing ageing Air Force aircraft. AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS at Friday, Hill received the second annual "Examples of Courage" Award for its strong support in hiring individuals with disabilities. Hill was presented the award by the Examples of Courage Foundation, a charitable organization founded by Gaye Mair and her family in honor of her husband, John Coral Mair. Andy Flowers, Hill's Director of Personnel, accepted the award Friday night during a ceremonial dinner held at the Davis Applied Technology College. "Hill has been known throughout the state for its work in hiring people with disabilities." Mr. Flowers said. "Its something we take great pride in." The Davis Applied Technology College currently serves more than 20 students who are deaf, blind, struggling with attention deficit disorder or physically and mentally disabled. ' Because the number of students facing these challenges is growing, the school has created a foundation in partnership with Examples of Courage called the Coral John Mair Scholarship Fund. Both foundations help to raise funds for disabled students at the college. "We started this in honor of my husband who was a teacher in the business department at the DATC," Ms. Mair said. Ms. Mair said Hill received this year's award because as the state of Utah's biggest employer, they provide a great example for other corporations to follow. "When someone as notable as Hill Air Force Base makes a conscious effort to hire disabled people, it sends a message to everyone else," Ms. Mair said. "The work they do at Hill is so important and to have members of that team who are disabled shows they are just as capable as anyone else. Ms. Mair said hiring disabled citizens is essential and is good for both parties involved. "When a disabled person is given their fair opportunity, it is a win win situation," Ms. Mair said. "Not only does it make the person feel more valuable and better about themselves, but it makes them a real contributor to the community. By giving them opportunities to excel, we find they are just as capable as anybody else." In addition to Hill, DATC student Cordie Weed was also honored at the dinner.
