Show liquor license raised to 1800 at their meeting held at nephi on monday the board of county corn com missioners raised the saloon license from to 1800 per year this of course will not effect the saloons in the incorporated cities of the county but in the smaller towns it will un mean the closing of all saloons as few if any of them will be aole aile to pay 1800 a year the corn missioners also raised the license on pool tables to W 10 0 per year and and ruled against allowing chairs slot it achi achiles or gambling devices blinds or screens in saloons the new ord nance takes effect on march 1st the rhe only place upon this side of the county that will be effected by the prohibitive license is silver city the other camps in being inco abed As near as ve e can learn at this time the commissioners cammi passed tl it e new ordinance because the people in the ea eastern sterl end of the county have come out strong for prohibition the incorporated cities in that part of the county have already ahead passed prohibit tion measures and when the saloons throat threatened ened to open up unjust just outside the city limits the people appealed to the commissioners and made it so g that the board fell into line and pass ed the measure raising the license to 1800 a year at the time the smelter was in operation silver city was the wet test r town in the state having more saloons according to the population than any other place in utah but since that time many of the salo saloons ofis have been closed the increase in the license will undoubtedly put the rest ot of them out of business 8 |
