lations in the designing of several of thich george washington himself had a hand are located tor for the most part pa rt in the states of virginia and west vir gi ails ila probably the most two miles from harewood this structure is in a perfect state of preservation ard vividly tive in furnishings as ell as ar of colonial days the estate it Clay mount once belonged to george washington and the present mansion erected by bush rod NNa washington hington a son of the gen brals eral s nephew alt although bough not built ISO 1890 was constructed in ac corrance cor dance with plans drawn by georg washington hemelt the descendants of bushrod washing ton oc curled Clay mount for more than half a century but about ten years ears ago the historic estate passed into the possession of frank R stockton the well known novelist who resided there until his death the manor heuse at Clay mount consists consist s of a central building of brick nith two commod commodious lous wings and on each entrance portico relieves outlines that are rather plain and severe but on the south front there Is a broad 90 foot veranda on both the first and second poors some idea of the size of the trio rr r R kind save sane the one nar row dodrv doorway ay almost the entire space in the cell is taken up by an immense cupboard or sideboard elaborately carved obviously this massive piece of furniture firn iture must have been placed in its position and deliberately imprisoned by the construction of the solid vails nails which surround ind it az P about a doyen miles from clay mount and just over the
