than different symptoms and disorders growing out of the same cause It is his opinion that sunstroke is due to heat and not to electric raya or parts of light rays that cannot be detected The variation in salt content of the body and blood is a very important factor in heat stroke but it is not the most important factor Acidosis is the outHis experiments standing cause showed that there was a great Increase In body acids particularly In lactic acid in sunstroke When the atmosphere air Is at 50 degrees and the human body Is at rest the excess htat made by the life processes is easily given off by conduction The molster the air the better the conduction works When the air reaches 70 degree conduction is not equal to the task of keeping down bodily heat and evaporation of perspiration helps out For this lat- ter process dry air 1 much superior to wet At first perspiration is insensible As the temperature rises the perspiration accumulates in beads and runs in streams Whenthe temperature of the atmosphere reaches blood heat conduction goes out of business and perspiration carries on as the agency for cooling The drier the atmosphere the more efectlve Is perspiration When the atmosphere is saturated the temperature with water and reaches 90 the body begins to go Into a fever Bodily temperature goes out of control The skin and kidneys throw off much salt in solution If the atmospheric temperature rises high perspiration rolls off the skin and the kidneys in order to conserve salt and water slow down to almost nothing If an insufficient amount of salt and water is consumed presently the blood becomes deficient in both When the kidneys slow down the blood supply of salt and water is conserved Baity fluids drain out of the tissues into the blood causing some Increase in Its saltiness and its volume But there Is a limit beyond which these processes cannot go Presently perspiration slows down But meanwhile temperature Is going down salt content is falling and acidity Is accumulating The man develops heat cramps or heat stroke If he Is a whisky drinker or is Infected with malaria be will go Into this condition more quickly than he otherwise would It has been proposed that plenty of slightly salt water be consumed as a preventive measure Dr Frank Marsh who has practiced on the employes of the Anglo Persian Oil company on the hot plains of Persia says: “Prophylactic -- treatment is effective” He advocates putting persons overcome by heat In the cold storage room of an ice plant until they can be removed to certain refrigerated hospitals where such cases are almost certainly and completely cured Several physicians discussed Dr Marsh’s papd? All were agreed as to the advantage of the refrigeration treatment but there was disagreement as to the unity of sunstroke and heat stroke Some advocated Injections of soda solution to overcome ANEMIA suffer the cutting off of their Clinton Announces Pioneer Day Fete : 1 horse-pullin- true that Mrs H B Way and Mrs Thomas Leslie bridge lunch- eon at the Way summer home In Ogden canyon In honor of Mrs William T Greenwell who will leave soon for Cheyenne Wyo to make her home Mrs Patrick Healy Jr luncheon for French class at the Greeu Gables tea room Ladles’ auxiliary to the Woolgrowers’ association meeting 2 p m at the Hotel Bigelow ac- Lo-be- llo OGDEN— Mrs James H Douglas and Mrs Charles J Baker entertained at tea at the Hermitage hotel In Ogden canyon Thursday from 4 until 6 p m In honor of Mrs Frank Q Cannon of Honolulu daughter of Mrs Douglas and sister of Mrs Baker Presiding at the tea table were Mrs Ralph E Bristol Mrs R T 8avage of Los Angeles Miss Ethel Jacobs Salt Lake Mrs Harry Bell Mrs M J Seldner and Mrs Harold Fomoff Assisting In the tea room were Mrs William Douglas Mrs Carl Wallen Mrs Melbourne Douglas Mrs W F Gallagher and Mrs E E Pratt Receiving the guest cards were Miss Betty Cannon and Miss Vivian Seldner One hundred and fifty Invitations were Issued Mrs W R Green of Provo who is the guest of Mrs Irwin 8 Ruth entertained at luncheon and bridge Thursday at the Hermitage hotel In Ogden canyon in honor of Mrs W L Other Pitts of Marshall Texas guests were Mrs E C Olsen Mrs J O Carver Mrs E A Garcia Mrs J L Moore Mrs Fred Meyer and Mrs as the result of Injuries suffered when struck by a car said to have been occupied by the defendants The accident Is alleged to have occurred at Jefferson avenue and Twenty-four- th street on the evening of September 5 1930 when a car In which Mr Skeen was riding was In collision with a car driven by Albert Lobello Mr Skeen says he suffered a dislocated shoulder in addition to cuts and bruises The defendants are charged with negligently operating $2600 their car City Seeks Use of Railroad’s WeU OGDEN— City Commissioner W J Rackham says that he Is negotiating with railroad officials for tho use of water from a railroad well near the Weber river for street flushing purposes Only one street flusher Is being used at present In line with ths policy of water conservation Mr Rackham says If permission Is granted to uss water from the railroad well two street flushers will be operated he said -- Mu-tpal- Firemen Check School Shop Blaze school work CONTROVERSY ENDS OGDEN — Controversy of long standing between Dan Bozo and Ogden city over certain land at Twentieth street and Jackson avenue needed by the city for street purposes has been settled City Engineer 3 O Brown notified the commission Thursday that Bozo and his wife had executed a quit claim deed to the city for the property BURN VICTIM’S FUNERAL SET for OGDEN— Funeral services John T Gipson who died Monday In the general hospital of the Southern Pacific railroad In Ban Francisco from burns received while cleaning an engine in the Ogden yards about six weeks ago will be held Friday at 2 p m In the Layto nohapel Bishop James E Ellison vgil! preside Burial will be In the Kaysvllle City cemetery under the direction of Larkin & Sons Society Chooses Show Chairman Thomas Hughes assistant manager of the Salt Lake Floral company Tvas chosefi chairman of the show committee of the Gladiolus Society of Utah at a" meeting of the society at the Newhouse hotel Thursday night The show will be held August 15 and 16 In the Elks club and according to Robert D Casto president of the association persons from California Oregon Idaho and Colorado as well as throughout Utah are expected to be among the exhibitors ‘U’ Class Plans TWO DIE IN WEBER COUNTY AUTO MISHAPS (Continued from The play production class of the University of Utah summer session will present “The Cradle Song” at the weekly art program at 8:15 p m Friday In the Nibley Park water theater The play a recent stage hit presented In New York by Eva will be directed by Earl McDonald of the Goodman Repertory theater of Chicago veyed It to the mortuary of Lindquist & Sons Mr Gibson was bom In February 1880 In West Weber a son of Thomas and Catherine Hunter Gibson He removed to Ogden akout 1908 In addition to his mother and widow Mrs Sarah Jane Hadley Olbson he Is survived by five sons and daughters: Mrs Ous Richardson Elmer Clyde Hazel and Florence Gibson Ogden: one grandchild five brothers and sisters James F Gibson Ogden Bishop John Olbson West Weber!
