The multi-sport competition combines swimming, mountain biking, and trail running. The event, held June 26, began with a 1000 meter mass start swim across Pineview Reservoir. After completing the swim through the reservoir’s chilly waters, participants rode their way to Snowbasin’s lodge before beginning two, 2 mile laps within the mountainous terrain. The 2004 Nissan Xterra USA Championship Series hosts 47 events in 28 states across the country, and is the only series of its kind for age group athletes. The event provides amateur multisporters with a bona-fide championship title, allowing them to compete against other winning athletes in the same age category and geographic region. The event, now in its fourth year, is sponsored by the GOAL Foundation. The organization was founded in 2003 as a means of enhancing economic development in Weber County through cultural and sporting events.
