Dora was born February 2, 1909, in Eden, Utah, to Joseph L. and Minnie Slater Ferrin, the fifth of seven children. She attended Weber County schools, graduating from Weber High School in 1927, and the Dee School of Nursing in 1930. She married Robert L. Van Cleave on May 9, 1931, in Ogden. He passed away June 30, 1982. Dora was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ogden and Queen Esther Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. During her professional career in nursing, she spent her early years at the Dee Memorial Hospital. Later, during World War II, she served at the Bushnell Naval Hospital in Brigham City. From 1956 to 1974, she worked the night shift in the “preemie” nursery at the Dee Hospital and the McKay-Dee Hospital, caring for “her” tiny babies. She retired in 1974. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Frank Lee; one granddaughter, Julie Ann Van Cleave; two brothers, Virgil and Parley; and three sisters, Edith Burnett, Ella White, and Norma Webb. She is survived by sons Deon R. Van Cleave (Loma), Roger P. Van Cleave, and Tom L. Van Cleave (Bonnie); and daughter-in-law JoAnn Van Cleave, all of Ogden; four grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Leona Slater of Ogden. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of the Arcadia Unit at Manor Care, and to Dr. Gilbert Caillouet for their loving care of Mom during the last 18 months. Send condolences to family at www.leavittsmortuary.com Mary Doman Hislop TREMONTON - Mary Hardy Doman Hislop, 88, died Friday, December 20, 2002 at Peachtree Assisted Living Center in Tremonton. Mary was born October 14, 1914 in Roy, the sixth child of Lewis Myron and Ella Maude Child Hardy. On October 3, 1934 she married Charles Carlyle Doman, the son of Charles Thomas and Helga Charlotte Peterson Doman, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Carlyle died November 27, 1960. She married Fred Raymond Hislop in 1963. Fred preceded her in death on November 19, 1992. She graduated from Lehi High School in 1934. Following the death of her first husband, she attended Brigham Young University from 1961 to 1963, where she received her teaching degree. Mary was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years she had served in all of the auxiliaries in the church. Mary and Fred served 33 months as missionaries among the Navajo Indians. During World War II she worked at the Ogden Arsenal making 50 cal. machine gun shells. She then worked at the Navy Base where she drove a convoy bus along with several other women, picking up Italian prisoners at 2nd Street and delivering them to the Navy Base and Hill Air Force Base. During the Korean War she worked at Hill Air Force Base dismantling B-26 aircraft. She began teaching at Ben Lomond High School, retiring from there in 1976. She lived most of her life in Huntsville. Mary served in the PTA while her children were young. Surviving are two sons, one daughter, and one stepson, Paul Kent (Janet) Doman, Ogden; Keith LaMont (Sheila) Doman, Tremonton; Karlyn Kay (Larry) Olesky, Montana; Mike (Edna) Hislop, Ogden; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Mary is also survived by two sisters, Janice Peggy Harris, Ogden; Myrle Young, Oregon. She was preceded in death by two sisters and nine brothers. Funeral services were held Monday, December 23 at the Huntsville 1st Ward Chapel. Interment, Huntsville Cemetery. The family expresses special thanks to Peachtree Assisted Living Center for the loving care rendered to Mary, and also to Rocky Mountain Hospice. Email condolences to the family at: lom@lindquistmortuary.com. Oregon died Thursday, January 2, 2003. She was born March 16, 1917 in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Walter L. and Ruby West Stephens. She grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School. She married her life-long friend and sweetheart Edmund (Ted) Greenwell in 1938. He died in 1995. In 1945 Afton and Ted, along with other Greenwell family members, opened Graycliff Lodge in Ogden Canyon. They operated the restaurant until 1960. She was then employed by Fred M. Nye Co., and later by Ogden City as clerk of the municipal court. In 1988 they moved to Albany, Oregon. She enjoyed her family, ballroom dancing, cooking, gardening, sewing, and bible study. Surviving are her three children: Edmund Stephen Greenwell (Barbara) of Longwood, Florida; Carla Dian Gerstner of Albany, Oregon; and Edris (Eddie) Thorsted (Randy) of Ogden, Utah. Also eight grandchildren, and nine greatgrandchildren.
