Show Volume VI, Issue IX THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 5 August 15, 2002 Ramp it up! Skatepark Committee Needs Your Help! A meeting of the skatepark committee was held on July 30 to discuss fundraising plans to purchase the ramps for the Huntsville skatepark. Several good suggestions for fundraising were offered by those in attending, but now we need your help to put those plans into action! We are going to need an army of skaters to help us ramp it up! The skatepark will be a great, free, recreation spot for the young people of the Valley, since there are few sidewalks in the Valley, local businesses do not want skaters on their property, and roads are not a safe space for the sport, especially for those little rollerbladers. The skatepark will provide a safe place for kids to practice their sport. Think of what it costs for your kids to snowboard or ski for just one day. If everyone who has “boarders” or “bladers” would just contribute the cost of one all day ski pass—or the cost of a large pizza—to the skatepark fund, we would be well on our way to making the skatepark a reality! Then your kids could ride all summer for free! Think of it . . . a whole summer of boarding for the cost of a meal! Give up a pizza . . . buy a ramp! Tax deductible contributions can be sent to: SKATEPARK COMMITTEE PO BOX 43 HUNTSVILLE UT 84317 Please plan to attend our next meeting on August 21, at 7:00 p.m., at the Huntsville Library. Scriptures are integrated into every subject. After testing 5,000 students in 22 academic subjects, examiners have concluded that students who use curriculum that is scriptually oriented, progress up to three times faster than students who use only secular curriculum. Classes are not age-group segregated like most schools, but are grouped after the pattern of the popular “Little Red Schoolhouse.” The Junior Class is for students from ages 5 to 11, and students ages 12 and older, including adults—even grandparents attend the Senior Class. This concept allows for personalized growth. For example, a student may be working on an eighth-grade level in Math and be studying on a college level in Science. Students at Kimber Academy are given diagnostic tests every ninety days to monitor their progress. Admission to the academy is not automatic, but is based on a desire to learn in a positive, spiritual atmosphere, and a desire to apply oneself in every aspect of learning. Students 12 or older must provide two letters of recommendation, which include character references. All students applying for admission must agree to abide by a dress code and a code of conduct. Tuition is $160 per month for the core curriculum classes. The Kimber Academy is based on moral principles. Students study the Bible and other scriptures used by the LDS Church. The Kimber Academy is not sponsored by or under the direction of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
