Show Page 20 THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume IV, Issue V June 15, 2001 National Trails Day Ribbon Cutting in Eden Dave Holmstrom and Weber County Commissioner Glen Burton perform the ceremonial ribbon cutting, formally dedicating a bridge that was constructed in Eden through voluntary efforts. The ribbon cutting event was held in correlation with National Trails Day events sponsored locally by Weber and Ogden Valley Pathways. The bridge spans a canal, linking a recently built trail that parallels the highway in Eden. Mayor McKay from Huntsville was also in attendance at the ceremony. Valley Elementary student Craig Atkinson of Liberty shares his winning essay with the crowd that gathered in Eden to celebrate locally, National Trails Day. Atkinson's essay described why pathways are important to a community. Carol Barker of Layton took first place in the June 2 race held in Eden. Barker won by having the most correct guess of her 5K run time. Melissa Frogh and Todd Gilbert are awarded their T-shirts for placing as the youngest and fastest contestants in the 5K Eden Fun Run held June 2 to celebrate National Trails Day. Participants were routed along the newly constructed Eden Trail, and the Pineview West Trail.
