The two brothers, both stu- Erik Oberg dents at Weber High School have been competing and winning awards in the State, National, and International Science Fairs this spring. For the past four years Taylor, a senior at Weber High School, has won all-expense paid trips to the International Science Fairs held in Louisville, Kentucky; Dallas, Texas; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This year’s fair was held in Detroit, Michigan. This year Taylor won the first place Air Force Award, Microbiology Category, in the International competition held May 7 through May 12. The award included a $3000 cash award and a medal. Taylor also won a first place award in the Environmental Division in the Science and Engineering Fair of Utah held at Weber State University on March 22. In addition, he captured the Naval Science Award and the American Society of Safety Engineering Award. Taylor’s project this year was entitled “Jet Fuel Pollution: A Microbial Solution—Development of an Effective Biofermentor. Erik, a sophomore from Weber High School, also earned an all expense trip to the International Fair in Detroit. Erik’s project, “An Alternative Source of Antibiotic: Halophilic Isolates from the Great Salt Lake,” took first place, Microbiology Division, at the Science and Engineering Fair of Utah. This is the second year Erik has represented Utah at the International Fair. While attending the International Fair, the brothers were able to visit the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village in Canada, and were also able to attend a Detroit Tigers baseball game.
