S a m ’s w i n n i n g a r t w o r k w i l l be displayed at an Open House at the Historical Society in Salt Lake City on May 6 in preparation for Prehistory/Heritage We e k p r o g r a m s t h a t w i l l b e h e l d May 6 through May 13. Ogden Valley Pathways is sponsoring an essay contest which is open to Valley Elementary and Snowcrest Junior High School students. Prizes (cash and merchandise certificates) to be awarded for each grade category—K,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, and 9th—and judged independently. Winning essays will also be published in the Ogden Valley News and/or Standard-Examiner. A contest entry form, paper, hard copy, of essay, and computer disk copy of the essay must be turned in to Valley Elementary teacher Mrs. Evans, or Snowcrest Junior High teacher Mrs. Holmstrom by April 28. Winners will be announced by May 24. Winning essays should best reflect the following ideas: Promotion and planning of a coherent network of non-motorized public pathways that maintain, enhance, and preserve the natural beauty of Ogden Valley. The value of pathways, of this nature, in Ogden Valley. Safety factors that could be enhanced because of pathways. Other. Criteria: Following these instructions is mandatory: Essay should be no more than 150 words. Entries should be typed or printed on paper, and also submitted on an IBM formatted disk. All essays become the property of Ogden Valley Pathways. This form must be attached to the essay with signature lines completed giving all rights and permission to print to Ogden Valley Pathways, Ogden Valley New, and Standard-Examiner. Essays and disks will not be returned. Essays should include name, age and grade for elementary or junior high students, phone number, and complete address as stated and lined above. Essays can be given to Michelle Evans at Valley Elementary School and to Sharon Holmstrom at Snowcrest Junior High. Call 801-393-2304 for more information. Second Graders Prepare for Annual Puppet Show I f y o u g r e w u p i n t h e Va l l e y, you were in them, and now you have children of your own in t h e m . We ’ r e t a l k i n g a b o u t t h e second grade puppet shows, of c o u r s e . T h i s t r a d i t i o n a t Va l l e y Elementary started thirty years ago, and the show just keeps gett i n g b e t t e r e v e r y y e a r. Wo r k f o r t h e p e r f o r m a n c e s begins in January with the students creating their own paper mache puppet heads. The heads are then painted and decorated while parents sew the hand mitts. M o n t y H a w k s , C a n d y F a c e r, Ann Whitehead, Amy Hedges, Laurie Hogge, and student t e a c h e r, A n g e l Tr u e t t w o r k t o help the students memorize their parts, use expression, and work cooperatively as they handle the microphone behind the stage. The result is one hour of excitement as the second graders perform all the favorite fairy tales. |
