Show Page 12 The OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume I, Issue XI August 1999 Valley Posses Participate in Pioneer Days Activities By Shanna Francis The South Fork Trail Blazers Posse is one of two Weber County posse groups active in the Ogden Valley–the other is the Liberty Posse. The Liberty Posse leaders for the last two years have been Marvin and Madelyn Evans of Eden. This year they had eight members participate in posse: Ashlii and Jessie Evans, Becca Hauber, Kylee Johnson, Lauren Jones, Kasey Malan, Heidi Taggart and Marcus Sanchez. Jeff Malan also helped with many practices and activities throughout the season. Culminating events for this year’s posse s e a s o n included the Ashlii Evans W e b e r C o u n t y Junior Posse Jamboree that was held July 17 at the Ogden City Stadium. Eleven posses from the county competed in scheduled events including the water race, keyhole, four in a row, pole bending and barrel racing. This year’s Liberty Posse king and queen were Marcus Sanchez and Heidi Taggart. Kasey Malan was first attendant and Becca Hauber was second attendant. The posse also participated in the Marcus Sanchez, Heidi Taggart Bridgette Bingham & Ashley Tyner another from the senior division for riders between the ages of 13 and 16. The Coca-Cola All Stars compete in barrel racing during the Pioneer Days Rodeo. Ashlii and Jessie Evans represented their Liberty team this year on the final night of the rodeo, July 24. All Horse Parade that was held on Wa s h i n g t o n Boulevard on July 19, and in the Pioneer Days Rodeo events held at the Ogden City Cari Montgomery & April Wangsgard Stadium. They helped out the Liberty Posse on the night of the Jamboree. Ten riders are necessary from each posse to compete. Since the Liberty Posse had only ten members, the North Ogden riders stepped in to help out. Leaders for the South Fork Trail Blazers include Nancy King and Pam Cross. This year’s South Fork team consisted of thirteen riders: Bridgett Bingham, Bill Clark, Kallee Cross, Samantha King, Lexie McKay, Amanda Melle, Cari Montgomery, Grady Pilkington, Ashley Tyner, Stephanie VanDyke, April Wangsgard, and Julie and Regina Welch. Posse riding in the Valley has a long history going back over 55 years ago. Today’s leaders stated that the Valley residents can be proud of the way their local posses’ represented them this year. They also were appreciative of the time and energy spent by members, parents and other leaders, enabling this posse year to be a success. Liberty Posse practices for next year’s season will be held on Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., beginning in May as soon as weather permits.
