Show Page 6 The Ogden Valley News Volume XXVIII Issue XI July 1, 2021 Announcements Obituaries Gordon Leslie Belnap November 17, 1929 ~ June 11, 2021 Gordon Leslie Belnap passed away Friday, June 11, 2021 at his home. He was born in the home of his parents Arias Guy and Mabel Harris Belnap in Gordon Belnap Ogden, Utah. He attended schools in Ogden City and graduated from Ogden High School in 1947 and attended Weber College. He served as an Army Photographer with the 45th Signal Company, Thunderbird Division during the Korean War. Following this service, he lived in Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah in 1956 with a degree in Business Management. He moved to California where he began his banking career with Bank of America in San Francisco, living in Walnut Creek and San Leandro, California. He returned to Ogden and worked for Commercial Bank (now Key Bank) as Vice President of the Real Estate Department. Gordon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many church callings. He served an LDS Mission to Finland from 1949 to 1952 and with his wife, Sharon, served in the Ogden Utah Inner-City Mission from 2015 to 2018. He was active in the community in the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Ogden Board of Realtors, Weber County Homebuilders, Athlene Green McFarland Greenwell 1923 ~ 2021 Our loving mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and friend left this world peacefully with family by her side. Athlene Greenwell Athlene was born in 1923 in Ogden, Utah to loving parents, Lawrence Albert, and Margaret Jardine Green. She was the youngest of three children. Mom attended schools in Weber County, graduating from Weber High School and Seminary in 1940. Mom met her husband to be when she was in 7th grade. A couple of boys came out of the school, and one told the other, “I’m going to marry her.” Mom married that boy, Dean L. McFarland, in 1942 in Preston, Idaho. After several years of military life, they settled down and made West Weber their home where they raised two sons. While the boys were growing up, the family enjoyed many camping, fishing, and hunting trips in Utah, Idaho, and Montana. Dad passed away in 1979. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple. In 1983 mom married Lewis H. Greenwell. For several years they enjoyed traveling and bowling together. Mom even took golf lessons so they could do that together. Lewis passed away in 2000. Athlene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings over the years including organist and positions in the Primary, Sunday School, and Mutual; and served as a Visiting Teacher. She was a beautiful pianist, and enjoyed her years performing with the Thorns and Roses group, singing at important local events. Mona also loved photography, mostly focused on her family and the beauty of nature. Her family time was precious to her: camping, boating at the Ogden Pineview Yacht Club, and supporting the many family activities and sporting events. Mona was a big Utah Jazz and Weber State fan, cheering them on from her easy chair later in life just as faithfully as the days in the stadium. Mona’s faith, and her dedication to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were essential to her, a cornerstone in her life. She served many years as a Primary teacher, Ward Librarian, and wherever she was needed. Mona was the epitome of a faithful member of the church. These teachings helped shape her into the extraordinary person she strived to be every day with unwavering success. Mona exemplified true, unconditional love. She lived every moment with the word of the Lord and made the world a better, kinder place for all. The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Stoney, Melissa, Danielle, Teresa, Emily, Steve, Andy, Miriam, Angela, Mckayla, Victoria, Kenley, Stephanie, Tori, and Jamie for their wonderful care during this last year after Monty passed. Also, to the Malan Heights Ward for those that visited and administered to Mona on many occasions. Mona is survived by her two children Shelley Chase (Keith Sargent) and Scott (Kathy) Chase; her grandchildren Aaron, Lindsey, Connelly, Chandler, and Christopher; her many nieces and nephews she adored; and her loving sister Marie Bullock. Mona is preceded in death by her husband, parents Rachel and Clyde Bramwell, brothers Dennis and David, sister Diane, and her dear stepchildren Kathy Ongley and Kirk Breitweiser. A viewing was held June 23 at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th St., Ogden, with a small service following. Interment at Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Park.
