Show Volume XXVII Issue VI The Ogden Valley news Page 13 August 1, 2020 Valley Elementary Chooses Not to Publish Supply Lists This Year At Valley Elementary, we greatly appreciate the generous support that we’ve received annually from our community as parents and volunteers have provided essential learning supplies for our students. However, because of the unique circumstances of this year, and out of respect for the needs of the community, we have chosen not to publish supply lists this year for each grade. Although households should never feel obligated to provide school supplies, we realize that some may still have a desire to donate. We assure you that any items you choose to provide will be distributed generally for the benefit of students. Common items that may be donated could include: Empty spray bottles Hand sanitizer Crayons Glue sticks Tissues Paper towels Clorox or Lysol Wipes Gallon or sandwich- sized Ziploc bags Personal headphones—over-the ear for younger grades and earbuds for older grades (please, no blue tooth sets of any kind.) • A mouse for use with student Chromebooks • • • • • • • • • Cash donations are also welcome, allowing teachers to purchase exactly what they would like. If you would like to make a donation or purchase specific items for your student, you are welcome to contact your child’s teacher. Sincerely, Jon England, Valley Elementary Principal joengland@wsd.net Wild Aware Utah Launches New Website, Holds Wildlife Safety Day at Hogle Zoo Local wildlife education program, Wild Aware Utah, launched a new website July 13 and held a wildlife education day at Utah’s Hogle Zoo on July 9 in an effort to help prevent human and wildlife conflicts. Wild Aware Utah was launched in 2010 as a way to help provide Utah residents and visitors with wildlife awareness and safety information. The program is a collaborative partnership between Utah’s Hogle Zoo, Utah State University Extension, and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to provide credible, nonpartisan, non-advocacy information on how to minimize conflicts between people and wildlife in the state of Utah. “As urban development continues to spread into wildlife habitat areas, and as outdoor recreation becomes increasingly popular in Utah, there is a greater chance of human/wildlife conflicts,” DWR Public Information Officer Faith Heaton Jolley said. “We want people to enjoy Utah’s wildlife, but we want them to do so safely and responsibly, which is why this education program is so important.” The new Wild Aware Utah website includes a new layout, logo, and branding as well as new, high-resolution images of Utah wildlife. The redesign also includes a new feature that allows people to subscribe to emails that contain occasional wildlife safety tips and other information about local animals. The new website also includes improved responsiveness for mobile devices. “The website contains invaluable information for Utahns, helping them to be proactive in minimizing conflicts with wildlife whether it be at home, in the community or in the wilderness,” Jessica Tegt, engagement and outreach coordinator with the Utah State University Extension’s Jack H. Berryman Institute. “It’s really a matter of being informed to keep both people and wildlife safe.” In addition to the website launch, “Wild Aware Day” was held at Hogle Zoo, where visitors saw different temporary displays educating them about wildlife behavior and safety tips as they walked through the zoo. “Whether it’s seeing a moose on a hiking trail, a baby bird on the ground, or bats who’ve made your attic their home, there are safe ways to handle these situations while still protecting wildlife,” said Erica Hansen, Hogle Zoo Valley Elementary Principal Invites Parents & Students to View School’s SAFE Weber Framework D e a r Va l l e y Elementary parents and students, we understand that as we move closer to the start of the school year, you may have some concerns about face-toface instruction. Our plan is to begin the year in the school under the moderate precautions outline in the SAFE Weber Framework (You can access the SAFE Weber Framework at wsd.net/ covid-19/news/safe-weber). We are prepared to offer alternative solutions to you and your child, as needed. Please call me at 801-452-4180 if you have specific questions or concerns about the beginning of the school year. I am very happy to help. I also want to add that the school is having its new student registration August 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This is for students who are new to Ogden Valley this year and have not yet submitted their enrollment paperwork to the school. You can find what you will need on our website at valley.wsd.net and click the banner that says “New Student Registration” at the top of the page. You may also visit the Weber School District’s web site where there is also a new student registration link. Please wear face coverings when you come to register August 6, and limit the number of people in your group, to the best of your ability. Also, Back to School Night at Valley Elementary will be held August 24 and August 25, and will be held by appointment. Schedule change requests will be available through an online form which can be accessed through the “STUDENTS” tab on our school website August 5th. You must meet the school dress code to have your picture taken. Picture packets must be paid on the day of pictures or online through the photography company.
