Mountain Arts and Music is sponsoring several arts workshops this summer in beautiful Huntsville Square. The sessions are held Wednesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. All supplies are provided. The space allows safe distancing. Workshops offered are Watercolor Painting, July 22 ($20 adult/$10 child 12-18); Beginning Drawing, July 29 ($10 adult/$5 child 12-18); and Pan Pastel Painting, August 5 ($20 adult/$10 child 12-18). Come play with others who are safely distanced, learn new songs, and tips provided by Jeannie Young. It’s a great way to keep yourself motivated to play! We are going to try to have an online (ZOOM) music share session on the first and third Thursday evening of every month, starting Thursday, July 16, at 7 p.m. The goal is to get us playing music at home, with a goal to share a song with others and to play along with others in the comfort and safety of our own home. Here’s how we hope it will work. Participants will RSVP <mountainartsandmusic@gmail.com> They will need to download the ZOOM application on their computer. They will then receive an invitation to the session from the host, with a link to a website for the ZOOM session. When they get on the session, instructions will be provided. We will go around the session, and if someone has a song they would like to play for others, they can do that. If they want to lead a song so others can play along, then everyone else will be muted and the leader will be heard by everyone, and everyone else will play along with no one else hearing them. If you don’t want to lead or play a song that others will hear, but just want to play along with someone else leading, that will be just fine also! However, we hope that people will bring a song to share! So, if you are interested in experimenting with this with us, please let us know at mountainartsandmusic@gmail.com and you’ll receive an invitation and more information! Enjoy the Arts! Red Cross Needs Local Volunteers Due To COVID-19 Experts say we are in for a busy wildfire season this summer and the American Red Cross needs volunteers to help in our community, as well as be available to deploy to national disasters such as Hurricanes on the east coast. Disasters don’t stop in a pandemic and neither do Red Cross volunteers who offer care and comfort to all affected by disasters large and small. “The coronavirus pandemic will make it challenging to deploy trained disaster volunteers from around the country should an emergency occur. In light of this, the Red Cross needs volunteers to be ready to help out nationally, as well as to answer the call to help if the need arises here in our own back yard” said Heidi Ruster, Utah and Nevada Regional Executive. Full information on volunteer opportunities, visit <www.redcross.org/volunteer/ become-a-volunteer/urgent-need-for-volunteers.html> Shelter Help Needed There is a special need for volunteers to support sheltering efforts. Because of COVID-19, the Red Cross is placing those needing a safe place to stay in emergency hotel lodging when possible. If hotel stays aren’t possible, then the Red Cross will open traditional shelters. To help keep people safe, we have put in place additional precautions and developed special training for our workforce. We need volunteers to help staff shelter reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information collection and other vital tasks to help those we serve. We have both associate and supervisory level opportunities available. Health Services Support Needed - If you are an RN, LPN, LVN, APRN, NP, EMT, paramedic, MD/DO or PA with an active, current and unencumbered license, the Red Cross needs your support. Volunteers are needed in shelters to help assess people’s health. Daily observation and health screening for COVID- 19-like illness among shelter residents may also be required. RNs supervise all clinical tasks. Roles are also available for Certified Nursing Assistants, Certified Home Health Aides, student nurses and medical students. We need volunteers in shelters who can provide care as delegated by a licensed nurse. This might include assisting with activities of daily living, personal assistance services, providing health education and helping to replace medications, durable medical equipment or consumable medical supplies. Furry Friends Need Help Too - When people leave their homes during an emergency, they take their pets with them. The Red Cross is looking for established partner organizations to support the pet sheltering effort. For Those Interested In Volunteering - If you are interested in helping our community should a disaster occur, please go to <volunteer.utah@redcross.org> Those interested in volunteering or needing more information can also contact Kristy Denlein, R e g i o n a l Vo l u n t e e r S e r v i c e s Officer, at 801323-7000. Be sure to review the CDC guidance for people who are at higher risk for severe illness, consult your health care provider, and follow local guidance. Our number one priority is the health and safety of our employees, volunteers and the people we serve. About the American Red Cross - The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission. News from Huntsville Town: Huntsville Parking Information It has been an some have been pulling onto private propeventful last couple of months in Huntsville. We have experienced an increase in visitors to our little town. It has been a challenging time for the Weber County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Forest Service. Parking in “no parking” areas has been a challenge. Huntsville Town is actively ticketing illegal parking in access areas and so have the Forest Service and Sheriff’s Department. As you may be aware, parking is permitted west of 7300 East in Huntsville for Huntsville residents only who have parking permit passes. We have been made aware that people are getting creative with their parking; erty in order to park near the beach access. Please, do not pull into private property and park—even if you do have a resident pass. We will be ticketing these areas. In addition, please note that motorized vehicles are NOT allowed to be operated on Forest Service Property. This includes golf carts! Please be aware that 7100 East, south of 200 South, is Forest Service property. This is also a reminder that those driving golf carts, 4-wheelers, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, Vespa’s and mopeds need to have a valid driver’s license if you are driving on Huntsville Town streets. Thank you for your consideration in these matters! |
