I took photos of everything around me, but I loved landscapes. When I moved to a 35 mm I became more experimental, going deep into a flower or using odd angles to capture individual beauty. “I went to Europe four years ago; the trip became my artistic education in photography. When I looked at Van Gogh, I loved the way he transformed nature and objects into near abstract images: A sunflower changed into a yellow explosion. I studied how Picasso used three colors and a few lines to create his abstract drawings. Seeing these artists, as well as Monet, I Realized I wanted to take my photography in a different direction. “ Casas finishes “Like Picasso, I now use two to four elements to create an abstract photo. Like Van Gogh I am inspired by the natural world, but I see how I can transform a natural object - a flower into a different abstract vision. Using light, composition, different angles, and restricting myself to few elements, I try to make the viewers really look at my photos and question what they are seeing. What the viewer sees is not always my subject, what it is, is totally different. I do not use Photoshop. I reconstruct multiple images into a new creation.” The staff of the Eccles Community Art Center invites you to view these exhibits throughout the month of June.
