Shaylise and Alexander Harris Dustin and Madison Spainhower – Martin Messerly – Harris Madison Spainhower and Dustin Lee Martin will be united in marriage June 8, 2013 in the Bountiful Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A reception in their honor will be held June 7 at the Martin Residence in Eden. The bride is the daughter of Rich and Susie Spainhower of Eden. Parents of the bridegroom are Mike and Brenda Martin of Eden. Madison has an Associate’s Degree in Health Science and works at McKay-Dee Hospital Center. Dustin attends Weber State University where he plays football and competes in Track. He is majoring in Spanish and minoring in Zoology. He served an LDS Mission in the Tijuana Mexico Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The couple will live in Ogden after their honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas. Shaylise Messerly and Alexander Montgomery Harris were united in marriage May 14, 2013 in the Bountiful Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A reception in their honor was held that evening at Snowbasin Resort in Huntsville where guests also enjoyed dancing. The bride is the daughter of Justin and Brandi Messerly of Eden. Parents of the groom are Todd and Keri Harris of North Ogden. Shaylise is completing a degree in Business Administration at Utah Valley University. He is completing a Pre-dental degree, also at Utah Valley University. The couple honeymooned the Bahamas, and have made their new home in Provo. Obituaries Lewis Grant May Lewis Grant May, 69, passed away May 10, 2013. He was born June 8, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Millard Lewis and Betty Burdette May. Lew graduated from Ben Lomond High, Weber State College and was very proud of his Lewis May Master’s Degree in Music Education from the Univ. of Michigan under the direction of Dr. Ravelli. He married Carol Ann Everts in 1967; they had two daughters and later divorced. He married Judy Macfarlane May 20, 2000 and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. As a member of the LDS Church, Lew served as secretary to the High Priest Group and as Choir Director. Lew taught at T.H. Bell Junior High as a band teacher for 22 years. During those years, he influenced the lives of thousands of students. He played in and directed the Weber State Alumni Band, Riverdale Community Band, and the Mt. Ogden Brass. Lew lived life to the fullest, enjoying many outdoor activities. He was a ski instructor at Snowbasin. He loved camping, fishing, boating, biking, river rafting, and golfing with his family. He is survived by his wife, Judy; 2 daughters, Mishy (Ron) Kirby of Taylor, Marci May of S. Ogden; 21 grandchildren; and 5 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Interment, Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd. Dean Robert Jeffs, 96, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013. Dean Jeffs Col. Ret He was born March 21, 1917 in Logan, Utah the son of Samuel and Rose Harriet Reeder Jeffs. Dean married Marjorie Weaver Jeffs June 25, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on March 24, 1998. Dean earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Utah State University and later earned a Masters degree in Chemistry. He served for 27 years in the U.S. Army, including WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He worked as a school principal, school teacher, and Justice Court Judge in Fruit Heights City. Nedra Allen Florence Neddra Allen Florence, born February 1, 1934 in Huntsville, Utah to Louis and Merle Bracken Allen, passed away in her home Saturday, May 18, 2013. Nedra was the oldest daughter of seven children. Her mother died at a Nedra Florence young age and left Nedra to care for her younger siblings. She has always been a wonderful mother to all. Nedra loved dancing and performing. She loved her days as cheerleader at Weber High School and continued to teach others her love of dance. She had her own dance studio in the basement of her home and produced many wonderful dance recitals. She also helped choreograph many Road Shows and Dance Festivals. She married Bruce Allen Florence on August 21, 1959. Together they raised five children. Nedra had several loves in her life, the first Steven Belnap Steven “A” Belnap, 56, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in Washington Terrace following an extended illness. Born December 12, 1956,in Steven Belnap Oakland, California to Gordon Leslie and G. Joy McArthur Belnap, he grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1975. He attended Weber State College and Utah State University and was affiliated with Sigma Gamma Chi fraternity. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Steven served an LDS mission to the Florida Ft. Lauderdale (Spanish-speaking) Mission from 1976 to 1978, serving mostly in Puerto Rico. He worked for many years at Mortgage Computer in Ogden. An avid family historian, Steven served as genealogist of the Belnap Family Organization for several decades. He enjoyed updating the family’s genealogical records, attending reunions, and keeping in close touch with relatives. He also loved American history, particularly the Civil War era and the lives of U.S. Presidents. He traveled through much of the U.S. visiting historical sites. Steven had an exceptionally sharp mind with an uncanny ability to recall long-forgotten dates and details. He always remembered to send birthday and holiday cards. Funny, kind, and considerate, he loved telling jokes and stories, watching classic movies, reading and collecting books, playing board games, and treating his nieces and nephews to special outings with “Uncle Teeb.” A doting uncle who gave unconditional love, he was, truly, “the best uncle ever.” He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings, District President, Branch President, Temple worker, Sunday School President, and Music Director. Dean was a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers and a descendant of the Willie Handcart Company. He was a singer and soloist. Dean loved birds, model trains, photography, and traveling. Surviving are his sons, Parley Hal (Claudia) Jeffs, Bear River City; Joseph Steven (Lois) Jeffs, Huntsville; Bruce Weaver (Marian) Jeffs, Kaysville, daughter; MarDiene Jeffs, Bountiful; 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Donald R. Jeffs. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie W. Jeffs, son, Robert Dean Jeffs; parents; two sisters; and four brothers. Funeral services were held Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Fruit Heights 3rd Ward, 170 N. Mt. Road. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery. The Family would like to thank home care aid Kenna McCormick, along with Legacy Hospice and Pheasant View Assisted Living for the kind and compassionate care given to Dad. being the love of the Savior and being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her family and could always be seen supporting them in piano recitals, basketball games, and dance performances. She loved taking her girls, and later her grandchildren, shopping. They always knew it was better to go shopping with grandma. Everyone always loved to eat at Grandma’s. You knew you would never go hungry at Grandma’s house. Nedra and her son Mick ran Universal Genealogy Center for over 35 years together. Mom loved connecting people together and finding long lost cousins and relatives. Nedra is survived by her loving husband of 54 years and five children, Mick (Marilyn) Stanger, Kim Stanger, Laurie (Bart) Hansen, Russell (Julie) Florence and Brenda (Matt) Bilodeau, 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mom was a perfect example of a person without guile. She loved and nurtured everyone she met. Funeral services were held May 22, 2013 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery. Steven contracted osteomyelitis as an infant, which slightly affected his mobility. In 1998 he was involved in a car accident that damaged his liver and eventually severely impacted his overall health. In November 2010 he was hospitalized and fought hard to recover, spending time in various hospitals and care centers. Those extra few years were a great blessing to his family. A highlight during this time was when he returned to his childhood home for Christmas Eve dinner 2012—a memory that will be treasured forever. Steven was preceded in death by his mother, who died in June 2012, and an infant brother, Alan Leslie Belnap. He is survived by his father; his brothers Brian Lee (Karen Palmer) Belnap of Liberty and Brent Jay (Lorinda Goff) Belnap recently of New York City; ten loving nieces and nephews: Michael, Melissa (serving an LDS mission in Guatemala), Ryan, Rachael, David (serving an LDS mission in Peru), Caroline, Christopher, Spencer, Rebecca, and Nathan Belnap; an uncle, Joe C. Pine of Montgomery, Alabama; and many dear cousins and extended family members. To accommodate family travel, the viewing will be Tuesday, May 28 at Aaron’s Mortuary, 496 24th St., Ogden, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Wednesday, May 29, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be May 29, at Aaron’s Mortuary at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Ogden City Cemetery next to his mother. The family wishes to thank Mount Ogden Health and Rehabilitation Center and CNS Home Health and Hospice for their kindness to Steven.
