On Saturday, June 4, Clark Planetarium and Miller Motorsports Park will host “Racing to the Stars,” a family-friendly benefit supporting education programs that reach over 75,000 Utah schoolchildren each year and support the planetarium’s mission to inspire wonder in learning about space and science. The event, which runs from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., will feature dinner, rocket demonstrations by the Utah Rocket Club, tours of the Larry H. Miller Total Performance Museum, and racing activities. Once the sun sets, Clark Planetarium will lead a star party for attendees, complete with a variety of telescopes to showcase a host of celestial objects in the night sky. These activities are part of the General Admission package, which is available for a donation of $30 in advance on the planetarium website, or $35 at the venue entrance. There will also be a live auction in the evening, including a Triumph Daytona 675 racing bike and two trips to Space Camp in Atlanta. The purchase of a VIP Ticket entitles guests to participate in other activities at the event such as: Skid car - Simulates dangerous road conditions safely, jeep rides on a mini-Moab off-road course, sim Race - ride with a Miller Motorsports professional race car driver, zipline, and go-karts. VIP Tickets are available for a donation of $100 in advance or $110 at the entrance. Guests will also have the opportunity to race their own cars on the track in a “Wide Open Race” for an additional $25. “This is a thrilling event for the whole family with exciting science-based activities that really bring out the “oohs” and “ahhhs,” said Seth Jarvis, Clark Planetarium director. “Most importantly, all proceeds from the event go to a great cause—science education for students in Utah.” Clark Planetarium is a division of Salt Lake County Government whose mission is to create and present stimulating educational programs that effectively share astronomy and space exploration information with Salt Lake County residents, Utah students, educators, and families and visitors from around the country and the world.
