Show Page The Ogden Valley news Volume XVII Issue XXII May 1, 2010 Announcements Birthdays Roger Jenkins Roger Jenkins of Huntsville celebrated his 80th birthday with his identical twin brother Richard Jenkins at a family dinner. He and his brother were born April 7, 1930 in Rawlins, Wyoming Roger Jenkins to Alice and Lawrence Jenkins. He grew up and attended school in Fruitland, Idaho, graduating from Fruitland High School. His earlier years were spent working on the family farm. He was active in 4-H, raising calves and pigs. Obituaries In May 1949 he joined the U.S. Navy and was in the submarine division stationed at Pearl Harbor. In March 1953 he started work for the Union Pacific Railroad as a trainman and brakeman. He retired in April 1992 after 39 years of service. In July 1957 he met Shirley Stoker on a blind date. They were married November 1, 1957. They have enjoyed 52 years together, and have resided 50 years in Huntsville in the same place. He has three children: Rogina Brown, Diana Donkin, and Larry Jenkins. He has eight grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. He also has four brothers and five sisters. Marjorie was an avid doll collector, who loved showing her collection to local school children and various clubs. She loved nature, especially her beloved Ogden Valley, where she was born and raised. Her hobbies included photography, skiing and cross-country skiing at her ranch. She loved hiking with her grandchildren, her travels throughout the world with her family, especially her trips to the Hawaiian Islands. One of her greatest loves was reading to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are one son, Dr. Rex M. Jr. (Elizabeth) Alvord, Gig Harbor, WA; four daughters, Karyl K. Hoeptner (Dr. Wolf Hemsing), Austria; Diana Alvord (Joseph) Marchione, Liberty, UT; Julianne Alvord (David) Salazar, North Ogden; Amy A. (T.H.) Steele, Italy; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, C. Ronald Rhodes, Powell (Rocky) Gordon Rhodes, and Dan DeVere Rhodes. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dr. Rex M. Alvord, twin sister Marcia (at birth) and her childhood sister, Carol. Marjorie was a kind, compassionate and giving woman, who was loved by all those who knew her. She will be dearly missed by all. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the wonderful doctors, nurses and caregivers, for providing loving care for Marjorie. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 13 at the Waterfall-Canyon Ward (Forty-First Ward), 3254 Polk Ave., Ogden. Interment, Liberty Cemetery. Send condolences to the family at <www. lindquistmortuary.com > Floyd and his first wife Twila Call had four children: Harold, LouJean, Derlin, and Joyce—three of whom still survive. He married three other times and met each of his wives on the dance floor—a fox trot artist for sure. He and his third wife, Carrie Thomas James, were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Bishop for five years in the old Ogden 2nd Ward. He and his third wife, Carrie, served a mission together in British Columbia. During his later years, Floyd was a happy, positive temple worker where he could be found among his colleagues four days a week. February 10, 1995, his principal residence was with his son and daughter-in-law, Derlin and Grace. During the last two years of his life, he lived with them full time. Surviving are his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Riverdale 4th Ward Chapel, 5500 S. 1175 W. King, 92, passed away April 11, 2010 from causes incident to his age. He was born on September 6, 1917 to Samuel J. King and Rhoda A. Conatser in Frederick, Oklahoma. Raised on a ranch in William King Kim, Colorado, along with his three sisters, he later served in North Africa and Europe during WWII. He married Barbara C. Dinkel on January 1, 1946. He retired from Western Electric in 1976 and moved to Ogden following the death of his wife in 2004. Floyd O. Newey Floyd Otto Newey, 102, died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at Washington Terrace Health Services. He was born September 11, 1907 in a six-room frame house built by his father. He was the tenth of fifteen Floyd Newey children—eight girls and seven boys—thirteen of which lived to adulthood. His hardworking parents were Thomas Newey, born October 25, 1867 and Lois Maude Wright, born August 17, 1873. Floyd worked as a glass mechanic for Bennetts Paint and Glass Company in Ogden, retiring after 43 years of service. As a great outdoorsman of fishing, hunting and skiing, he prided himself on being physically active his whole life. Floyd was a member of the Snow Basin Ski Patrol for 21 years. From its inception in the early 40’s, he was right in the middle of the development of Snow Basin as a forest service guard, and was in attendance at the dedication of the Wildcat Ski Lift, January 2, 1946. During the last 25 years, Floyd spent four months out of the year in Quartzsite, Arizona where he enjoyed bike riding and the friendship of fellow travelers. Following the death of his last wife, Olga Palmer Newey on Deceased Mary Elizabeth Farrell Sadler, 83, died April 9, 2010. Lucille Hadley Carnahan, 88, died April 10, 2010.
