The bottom line is, this is a lot less snooty-feeling that what people normally associate with a symphony concert. For more information, you may also visit <stevejohnsonart.com> “Celebrating the Southwest” Exhibit on Display @ the Ogden Valley Library From now until the end of May, the Ogden Valley Library will feature an exhibit on the Southwest. Books will be available from such authors as Bernard DeVoto, Edward Abbey, Juanita Brooks, and Wallace Stegner who have written extensively about the Southwest. In addition, local company Nature’s Images will show and sell floral arrangements using synthetic cactus, desert flowers, natural rock, and wood. These are unique designs and feature the slogan, “No water, no sun, no fuss—just enjoy.” Nature’s Images was founded last year by Doug and Jane Olson, who have been residents of the Valley since 1995. While they have traveled through most of the world, their favorite place remains the deserts and red rock country of Utah and the Southwest. They have visited all the national parks on numerous occasions, and state that a favorite trip was rafting through the Grand Canyon. Jane has had many years working with floral design, but she had seen very little in replications of the beauty of desert settings. So, together, they started Nature’s Images and focused on bringing arrangements in pottery, metal, and wicker to light. They also chose art prints and photography of their favorite Southwestern sites and mounted and framed them, some utilizing Doug’s artistry in knotty alder. Unfortunately, the Olsons have found the transport of their work to different art shows to be difficult and destructive on the framed pictures; thus, they want to offer their work to the community at a great discount. Many of these pieces are showing in the library in Huntsville, along with a few Southwest design arrangements. Take a look and bring home a memento of your own travels in the Southwest. For more information, you may call the library at 801-745-2220 or Jane at 801-388-1939.
