Show Page 6 The Ogden Valley news Volume XXIII Issue I March 1, 2015 Announcements Obituaries Gene Mack Stallings December 21, 1931 ~ February 17, 2015 Gene Mack Stallings, age 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at his home in Eden. His wife of 58 years was by his side. Mack was born to Gene Mack Stallings James “Jim” Ritter and Virginia Mae “Judy” McEntire Stallings on December 21, 1931. He was raised in the quiet farming community of Eden, living there his entire life. Mack married Rena May Graham on February 24, 1956. He served in the army. After basic training, he was shipped to Korea where he served as a firefighter. Mack was a member of the American Legion Post 129 and served as the Commander for many years. Mack worked in construction for several years in Ogden and then started his own construction business using the first backhoe in Ogden Valley. Dylan Kerr Our sweet Dylan passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on February 17, 2015, to return to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father and his Elder Brother, Jesus Christ. Dylan was born July 9, 2009 to Steven Andrew and Rosanna Gurr Kerr in Dylan Kerr Murray, Utah. He is survived by his parents; siblings, Megan, Simon Peter, and Rachel; grandparents, Nancy Esther (Ronald Karl) Englestead, and Brian Kendall and Myra Ann Froerer Gurr; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mack was a great story teller, using a very colorful vocabulary. He was quick with a good joke. He took pride in raising good Hereford cattle, hay, fine oats, good dogs, and lots of hell. Perhaps his greatest legacy is raising many boys to become great men. Mack is survived by his wife, Rena; one brother, J. Dan (Susan) Stallings of Twin Falls, ID; two sisters, Janet Fay (Duane, deceased) Jensen of Pocatello, ID and Mary Sue (Keith) Rasmussen of North Ogden; Jason Furgeson whom Mack referred to as “his boy” and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends special thanks to Jason Furgeson, Dan Harris, Ercell and Roberta Blain, and Alicia and Cole Messerly for their tender loving care. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Dylan was a very smart, fun, happy, energetic little five-year-old who loved math and reading. He loved Mario and Luigi, playing the Wii with his brother and sisters, going to kindergarten, coloring pictures, building Legos, and his yellow blankie. Dylan’s passing gave him the opportunity to improve the lives of three other people by donating his organs. Dylan is a precious boy who will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. Donations can be made at <www. gofundme.com/dylankerrfund> Shirley Davis Rahrer May 26, 1935 ~ February 6, 2015 Shirley Davis Rahrer, 79, of Eden, passed away February 6, 2015 in Eden, Utah. She was born May 26, 1935 in Woodstown, New Jersey to Paul E. and Marion Adams Davis. Shirley graduated from Woodstown High School in 1953. She married Edwin Rahrer in 1955. After being a resident of Woodstown for 55 years, Shirley and her husband moved to Eden, Utah, following their retirement in 1990, to fulfill their lifetime dream of living in the West. Shirley is survived by Ed, her husband of Dr. Kenyon Lewis Tew Kenyon Tew passed away at home on January 18, 2015 with his loving family at his side. Ken was born June 24, 1953 and spent his childhood in Los Gatos, California. He received an underDr. Kenyon Tew graduate degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara. It was his love of children that led to his life’s calling. After earning his degree, Ken went on to teach Kindergarten. Early in his teaching career he realized he was destined to work with special needs kids. So, Ken transitioned to Special Education and received his Master’s Degree, which was just the first degree of 16 years of postgraduate studies. Ultimately, Ken earned his Doctorate in Psychology and opened his first, of what was to become many, psychology practice focusing on children, adolescents, and families. “Dr. Ken” practiced in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas for over 20 years. During that time, in 1989 Kenyon had Cameron, his only child. In 2007, Kenyon returned to Santa Barbara. There he met, and later married, the LaVon T. VanOrden October 22, 1937~ February 8, 2015 LaVon T. VanOrden, 77, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2015 at his home in Pleasant View, Utah. He was born October 22, 1937 to Merrill and Irvene LaVon VanOrden Don Thompson VanOrden in Logan, Utah. Von grew up in the Ogden area and graduated from Ogden High in 1955. He married Emma Jean Burge in Brigham City, Utah on June 25, 1960; they were sealed for time and eternity in the Bountiful, Utah temple on January 20, 1998. Von worked at Hill Air Force Base where he was responsible for the building and maintenance of physiological trainers for pilots around the world. He retired from Hill AFB in 1994. Von loved to work with his hands, and following his retirement, he designed and built a beautiful home in Liberty, Utah. While living in Liberty, he went to work for a contractor scheduling maintenance on F-16 fighter wings. After almost twenty beautiful years in Liberty, Von and Jean moved to Pleasant View. Von was a member of The Church of 59 years; children, Barbara, Donald, and Leslie; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Shirley was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. Graveside services were held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd. Friends were invited to join the family at the home of Gwynn and Lee Anderson in Eden following the service. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. In 2009, Kenyon and Christy moved to Eden. Ken opened his own small practice in the Valley and practiced at Aloha Behavioral Clinic in Ogden, specializing in family counseling. Through his professional practice and his presence in the Ogden Valley area, Dr. Ken touched many lives, both young and old alike. Ken and Christy were also instrumental in starting the Christmas Celebration of Lights in Old Town and opening Pineview Trading Company. Ken loved the peace and beauty of Ogden Valley. He couldn’t get enough golf at Wolf Creek, skiing at Snowbasin, or wake surfing on Pineview. But, most of all, Ken loved being surrounded by friends and loved ones. Ken heroically battled cancer the last two and a half years of his life. He is survived by his mother Sally; two sisters, Karen and Sandi; his son Cameron; four nephews and a niece; as well as his bride, Christy Tew. Ken was charismatic, kind, generous, and loved by those who knew him. He had a strong belief in God and a zest for life. His legacy will continue on with his friends in Eden, his family, and through the lives of the children he counseled. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 20, 2015. He attended and had many dear friends in the North Fork Ward in Liberty, as well as the Pleasant View 10th Ward. He considered his greatest accomplishments to be his family, winning the love of his “sweetheart,” Emma Jean, and finally adding a cherry on their cake, by giving his sweetheart a wonderful baby girl. Another of his joys was riding his Harley and going on bike rides with his sons and his friends. He loved going to the gym and watching his grandchildren’s many sporting events. He was a quiet giant who had a way about him that made each member of his family and every person that he met feel loved and important. Von is survived by his wife, Jean, son Chet (Janice) VanOrden, son Scott (Stacy) VanOrden, son Lance VanOrden, and daughter Tiffany (Adam) Trump. He is also survived by his sister Carol (Jerry) Weaver, brother Cleve (Kaye) VanOrden, and sister Daun Marie (Oliver) Larson. He was grandpa to 14, and great-grandpa to six, plus two more on the way that he will visit with prior to their arrival. He was preceded in death by his parents.
