CERT is offering training courses at the Ogden Valley Library on October 13, 20, and 27 from 10:00 a.m. to, approximately, 4:00 p.m. For only $25, you will be trained in the art of taking care of your own family in the event of an emergency. And that’s not all; learn how to better understand how to aid our county’s emergency response team in the event of a community disaster. In these classes, the first thing you’ll be taught is that your number one priority for securing safety and survival is for your own family. Since there are only, approximately, eight professional emergency responders on duty in our Valley at any given time, common sense tells us that help will need to come from additional sources in the event of a community-wide disaster. It’s important to stop and consider, realistically, just how far these eight responders’ time, energy, and resources will reach in a community of approximately 5,500 residents—plus additional visitors—living and/or recreating in Ogden Valley in the event of a major catastrophic event. Even in a limited disaster, you and your family’s odds for survival will be greatly enhanced if you have had professional emergency response training. Please, take advantage of these CERT classes that are being held locally in our community; make the effort to attend these emergency response courses so you can learn the vital essentials for surviving a major, or even minor, emergency. Make new friends, and walk away more confident about your ability to aid in your family’s survival when needed. Someday, it could make all the difference, and you’ll be glad you did. CERT graduates are also invited to attend a monthly training meeting on the first Thursday of every month at the Ogden Valley Library at 7:00 p.m. To sign up for upcoming classes, or to ask general CERT questions, call Wayne Hillstead at 745-1561, or Darla Weston at 745-2365. |
