David and Verna Fletcher Mr. & Mrs. David Fletcher David Eldon and Verna Bess Fletcher of Ogden celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary with their family at the Maddox Ranch House Restaurant. They were married August 27, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was born in Ogden to David S. and Mable E. Fletcher. He graduated from Ogden High School, Weber State College, and the University of Utah, receiving an associate degree and a bachelor’s degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. after 37 year s. Born in Huntsville to John W. and Marjorie Ferrell, she graduated from Weber High School and Weber State College. She worked at Glen Brothers Music and Production and Marketing. She has been a piano teacher and accompanist since she was 13 years old. She has been active in the LDS Church and served in various positions. Their interests include reading, music, and enjoying their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their children and their spouses are Dianne and Norm Eddy, Clinton; Joanne and Lee Nanney, North Ogden; and Laurie and Blaine Richey, Ogden. A son, David F. Fletcher, deceased. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Bud was born in Liberty, Utah on Lloyd Willard January 20, 1923 to Thomas and Emmaretta Atkinson Willard. He was one of seven children. Grandpa lived in Liberty his entire life with the exception of the time he served in the military. He married Verena Allred on August 1, 1943 in Liberty. This union was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They spent over 60 wonderful years together, and raised five children. Bud served with the U.S. Army during World II in the Asiatic Pacific. He was self-employed as a rancher for 10 years. He retired from the Utah Department of Transportation after 20 years of service, where he developed a lifelong friendship with his buddy Ray Petersen. Bud was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several callings. Bud loved horses and rodeos. He was a founding member of the Ogden Valley Cutter Racing Association, and a longtime member of the Wasatch Slopes Cutter Racing Association. He was a member of both the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association. He instilled his love for horses in his children and grandchildren and spent countless hours supporting them at rodeos, horse shows, and races. He also loved working with leather. Bud and Verena were once honored as Grand Marshalls of the Liberty Days July 4th Celebration. He loved visiting with old friends each week at the stock sale, and had a quick wit and an infectious smile that was loved by all who knew him. We often joke in our family that he was once a member of the Liberty Ward Singing Mothers. Bud is survived by three of his children: Sharon (Frank) Southwick, Jim (Carol) Willard, and Sheila Gibson; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one sis- ter, Dorothy (Gene) Sanders. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verena, and two sons: Scott Willard and Monte (Lisa) Willard. The family would like to extend special thanks to Amy and Bridgette from VistaCare, Lisa from Hospice of Utah, and many loving friends and neighbors for their help and support. Funeral services were held September 20 at the Liberty Ward Chapel, 4150 N. 3300 E., with Bishop Dale Carter officiating. Interment, Liberty Cemetery where Military Honors were accorded. Online condolences may be sent to the family at <www.holbrookmortuary.com> Roy Loren Hardy Roy Loren Hardy, age 79, passed away September 15, 2007 in Holladay, Utah. He was born June 18, 1928 in Ogden, Utah to Loren Josiah and Thelma Diana Brown Hardy. He married Janice Barker February Roy Hardy 20, 1952. They later divorced. He married LuJean Rayl June 10, 1989 in the Jordan River Temple. Raised with his brother Don in Huntsville, Utah, he graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State College. Roy was called to serve an LDS mission in Mexico. Roy came to love the Spanish people and their language, a love that continued throughout his life. He served honorably in the U.S. Army, based in Panama. Serving in numerous church callings throughout his life, his favorite was teaching Gospel Doctrine. Roy had a beautiful singing voice that he loved to share. He was a member of the Tabernacle Choir and the Utah Symphony Chorus. In his later life he served as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Survived by wife LuJean; children Jodene (Vern) Christensen, Clayton (Beverly) Hardy, Mitchel (Paula) Hardy, and Jennifer (Douglas) Young; stepchildren Kenneth Rayl, Randall (Claudette) Rayl, Sharon (William) Wilson, John Rayl, Michael (Julie) Rayl; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother Don (Jan) Mable Elizabeth Burns Mable Elizabeth Burns Mable Elizabeth Fuller Burns died on the morning of September 20, 2007, in North Ogden, Utah of congestive heart failure. She was born in Eden, Ogden Valley, Utah on August 11, 1923 to Clyde R. Fuller and Sarah E. Cramer. Her mother died shortly after Mable’s birth, and she was raised by her aunts Chloe A. Fuller, Dora E. Fuller, and Annabelle Wilson. She attended Eden Primary School, Weber High School, and Weber Academy. During WWII, Mable worked at the Ogden Defense Depot both in the infirmary and as a welder. On September 29, 1943 she married Leith E. (Bob) Burns in the Salt Lake Temple. They started their life in North Ogden, Utah, and stayed there for the remaining 64 years raising four children: Jerold E. Burns (Karen) of Pleasant View; Alan C. Burns (Linda) of Clemson, South Caroline; Mary Ann Burns (David), of Manassas, VA; and Gordon L. Burns (Susan) of North Ogden. She volunteered consistently with various civic associations and PTA’s. She held continuous callings in the LDS church: Sunday School, Primary, Relief Society, and Scouts. She loved to take care of her family, both immediate and extended, OBITUARIES cont. on page 8 |
