Show Volume XIV Issue II THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 11 October 15, 2006 Weber Fire District Breaks Ground New Fire Station in Huntsville 5 Weber Fire District officials formally broke ground for a new three-bay, 9,000 square foot fire station scheduled to be built Huntsville. A ceremony was held September 28 on the 2.27 acre parcel near the Chevron station off of Highway 39 that will house the new facility—Station 65 Station 65 will aid Eden’s Station 62 in serving the Ogden Valley. Fire District Chairman Blaine Holmes stated, “This station will aid in a significant reduction in fire and emergency medical response times to the residents and our visitors to the Upper Ogden Valley.” In 20002, the Insurance Services Office (ISO) conducted a new rating study for Ogden Valley. The study resulted in a rating change from an 8/9 to a 9/10. This significantly impacted insurance ratings for residents and businesses in the Valley. In response, the District temporarily housed a single engine out of Huntsville’s Town shop to help the community maintain the lower insurance costs at the 8/9 rating. Rick Berry has been promoted to the position of Snow Sports School Director for Powder Mountain Winter Resort. Berry started at Powder Mountain as an instructor 21 years ago. In 1990 he was promoted to supervisor over the PowderKids program and has served as Assistant Director for the past 11 years. ‘One of my goals this year is to offer additional instruction to target teenagers from 13 — 19,” stated Berry. “The youth are the future of the industry and Powder Mountain wants to instill confidence so that they will take up skiing or boarding as a lifelong sport Rick Berry wder Mountain’s Snow Sports School employs an average of 80 instructors during the winter season. Daily instruction is offered in all levels of alpine skiing, snowboarding, and telemark skiing. Instructors are certified by either PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) or AASI (American Association of Snowboard Instructors). Ski Utah Announces most amazing ski town. Two additional stations are also being built at this time—one in Taylor and the other in Farr West City. When all three new stations are completed, the District will be served by six stations, which were needed to help keep up with demands generated by the growing population along the Wasatch Front and Ogden Valley. The District also recently purchased its first two ladder trucks. They are currently serving both the upper Ogden Valley and the lower valley At the groundbreaking ceremony, Holmes concluded, “Without the community’s support, this [new facility] would not be possible.
