On November 10, a sixteen year old from Hooper lost control of a 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix he was driving westbound over the North Ogden Divide. As he started down from the top, the car began fishtailing. The car veered up the hillside then rolled three or four times before coming to rest on its side. He and another passenger, a South Ogden youth, were able to climb out of a window before medical crews arrived. Suffering from assorted bruises, cuts, and, abrasions, the two youth were treated then transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The accident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. The teens were wearing seat belts, and the driver and passenger side air bags deployed. Witnesses say that excessive speed seemed to be a factor in the accident. The Weber County Sheriff’s office was also alerted to an accident near Camp up South Fork near Cause November 9. Apparently, four hee were target shooting with 22 caliber guns when they began shooting at ripples on the water of a pond near the gate to the camp. A 22 caliber bullet skipped and deflected off the water, then hit and became lodged in the thigh of an 18 year old South Ogden man. He was transported to IHC hospital in Ogden, and listed in good condition the evening of the accident. Sergeant Ryon Hadley stated that it isn’t uncommon for small caliber ammunition to ricochet or bounce off water—a danger that gun users should be aware of. Community Embraces Family from Democratic Republic of Congo By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News Last week when | arrived at the home of Lina Akatshi (Edjamboya) in Ogden, initially I would have thought that I was entering the home of an average American family, one that sheltered a large family. Children were running up and down the stairs, coming and going indoors and out; and several children were sitting down at the table trying to understand and complete homework assignments while French students from Ben Lomond High School helped with tutoring. Other members of the Edjamboya family were in the kitchen, perhaps trying to get a start on dinner. The youngest, two year old Dem’sine, kept coyishly hiding behind the legs of an older sister, as I found a seat in the living room in preparation for an interview with the family. displaced refugees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DROC), Lina Akatshi and her nine children are trying to find new meaning to the term “home and family.” Two years ago, while eight months REPUBLIC OF CONGO cont. on page 9 Shanna Francis Roll over on North Ogden Divide injures two teens.
