Ick!), moose tracks (wow, they’re big!), trees, flowers, and bugs (let me hold it!!). These are just a few of the discoveries that have been found in Ogden Valley Pathways’ hiking program with the Old Fire House Summer Camp. r week for 10 weeks, OVP volunteer John Klisch leads a session that features a different trail and a different aspect of hiking and the outdoors. With over 20 kids signed up and a range of ages from 6 to 12, it’s tough to come up with a program that interests all of the ampers. “Different kids can handle different levels of information. With the wide range, we try to focus on important and interesting basics like staying safe in the outflowers, and wildlife,” explains Klisch. Other volunteers come along to help present and reinforce the information being featured for the week, including Weber Pathways Chair Sally Neill, and OVP volunteers Paul DeLong, Rita Booth, Helene Liebman, and Adele Rosner. Each session focuses on a different topic, including Trail Etiquette and Leave No Trace Principles, Wildlife, Wildflowers, and Staying Safe Outdoors. After a brief introduction, campers and OVP volunteers head out for a ae hike. Trails hiked include Pineview West, Green Pond at Snowbasin, Wolf Canyon Trail, and Maples. his is the second year that Ogden Valley Pathways has teamed with the Old Fire House to promote trails and the outdoors to the campers. OVP also works each year with sixth grade teachers at Valley Elementary to sponsor a Pathways outing and essay competition on the importance of trails. This program is financed by an OVP donor. In 2005, OVP volunteer Dennis Shaw managed the project. OGDEN VALLEY TEMBER MEETING PATHWAYS SEP- OVP’s next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 7, at 7:00pm at the Huntsville Library. ADOPT-A-TRAIL PROGRAM This year, Ogden Valley Pathways is working to expand our trail maintenance program through an Adopt-A-Trail program. Under this program, families, businesses, and groups will adopt a trail or portion of a trail and provide for maintenance, such as trimming back branches, mowing sides when needed, and collecting trash. Some groups may even want to do some simple trail construction, or add trail signs or trail head markers. OVP signs at the adopted trailhead will recognize the group that has adopted the trail. d adopting groups will receive OVP guidelines and technical assistance. o far, three trails have been adopted, and OVP is working with other groups to finalize their applications.
