Snowbasin Announces Winners of the “Name the Park” Contest Last fall, Snowbasin turned to students at Valley Elementary and Snowcrest Jr. High to ask for help in naming the resort’s two new terrain parks. The parks were created for skiers and snowboarders who want to have fun on jumps and rails and even a teeter-totter. The upper park is located at the top of Porcupine and the lower park is located near Little Cat. On March 9 the winners were announced and invited up to Snowbasin along with Snowcrest principal Robert Stillwell and PTSO President Jodi Richardson. Seventh grade Snowcrest student Taylor Wood came up with the winning name of “Krazy Kat” for the lower park. Taylor is the son of Dianne and Brent Wood of Eden Joseph Richardson, also a 7th grader at Snowcrest, entered the winning name of “Apex” for the upper terrain park. Joseph is the son of Scott and Jodi Richardson of Huntsville. Valley Elementary students Martin Kesler and Curtis Child received Honorable Mentions for their entries. Winners received lunch, a certificate or one day skiing/snowboarding at Snowbasin, and a Snowbasin T-shirt and their own Terrain Park sign to hang in their rooms. Congratulations Taylor and Joseph! Liz is an expert in invasive weeds and forest protection. She will give a brief talk on the four most common invasive weeds in Ogden Valley and will answer questions like those listed above. For unincorporated Weber County, Farr West, Hooper, Huntsville, Marriott-Slaterville, and West Haven, written permits may be obtained from any of the Weber Fire District Stations during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The written permit identifies the products that may be burned and general safety requirements. The permits authorize permit ers to start and maintain a fire under prescribed conditions and serves as a notification of intent to burn. The permit does not relieve an individual from personal liability due to damages should the fire escape control. Permits are issued for agricultural type products and growing vegetation only and include the following: burning of wee growth along ditch banks incident to clearing for irrigation purposes; burning of weeds and brush along fence lines; stubble; leaves; and prunings from trees, bush, and plants. Permits may not be issued for burning trash, garbage, waste, lumber, tires, or oil based products. Powder Mountain Announces Spring Jam The Sixth Annual Spring Session at Powder Mountain will be held on Saturday, March 26. The jam will take place at the Hidden Lake half pipe and terrain park from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Anyone with a Powder Mountain lift pass is invited to participate, even novices on the half pipe. A barbecue, music b a Productions, and snow skate demonstrations will enhance the party atmosphere. For more Staeoaten, call 801-745-3772, extension | North Ogden Woman Rolls Car Down Edge of North Ogden Divide By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News On Wednesday, March 9, a 21 year old North Ogden woman traveling from Ogden Valley after visiting with her father, fell asleep at the wheel and careened over the edge of the North Ogden Divide, rolling several times before coming to rest upside down about 300 feet below the roadway. The white 1986 Chevrolet Spirit failed to navigate a corner about a mile up from the bottom of the Divide on the N. Ogden side. Ilene Curdnett was able to undo her seat- ly crushed side of the stopped to that speed car. She then climbed back up the mountain to where a witness had call 911. The witness confirmed did not contribute to the accident. Medical personnel checked the victim at the scene; she was not transported for further medical treatment. Curdnett suffered only miner bruises and abrasions. eber County Sheriff Sergeant Ryon Hadley stated, “This is a case where a seatbelt saved a life. We also caution drivers to pull off the road and rest if they become drowsy or fatigued.” Hadley stated that this is the third accident this year where a driver has gone off the road on the Divide.
