School Summit 9(orth '1 of The Eighth Grade Yellowstone Trip Wrap-u- p Tuesday, May 2. twelve North Summit Middle School student's boarded the busses along with South Summit headed to Fossil Burte National Monument. When we pulled up to the park, we met Rich School District there. We went in and met with a park ranger who told us about the Geological Periods of the park. We then went on a little hike up to a teal quarry where they find and preserve fossils. We then split up on to the two busses and headed to Yellowstone. The first place that we stopped was the beginning of the Yellowstone Caldera. It was really neat to Icam that we were in the middle of a ancient volcano. Wednesday, we headed out to Lamar Valley. On the way, we were all amazed at the number of elk and bison. About fifty miles down the road, we spotted Grizzly's. They were a sow and two cubs. We sat and watched them for maybe an hour. Then, as soon as the sun came over the hill, a pack of wolves came and chased the Grizzly's away. They also wanted to feed on the dead carcass. It was really funny, because, there were a bunch of elk standing around. One of the Wolves chose to come and have a staredown with one of the elk. The rest of the day wasn't loo bad. As we fumed around, to come back down the canyon, we saw the same set of Grizzly's. Today, we also went out to the Norris Geyser Basin. The first place that we went was Porcelain Valley. We did some tests on the water to see the temperature and the pH. Thursday we started out early at 4:30 am. We drove out to Lamar Valley and we were able to see the same 3 bean as yesterday feeding on the same carcass. We watched them for a little while and then went up the valley a ways. We got to see another bear, 2 wolves (one black and a gray alfa wolf) and a coyote that sat and watched us for a while before we even noticed it Then we traveled down to Specimen Ridge. We hiked up a 45 degree angle mountain that was 2 miles to the top, and 2 miles back down to the bus. It was 9.000 feet above sealevel and about 1,300 feet above ground. We were crawling on our hands and knees climbing up to the lop, but Summit County 2000 Countywide Spring Cleanup May lst31st, 2000 - The Entire Month!!
