Wc want it stopped! That is what the newspaper ad says.-Anthey are right. The ad. which has appeared in major papers across the nation several times, is aimed at parents, grandparents and families and YOU. It asks the question, "Is TV leading children down a moral sewer?" IT IS! Kids watch too much TV, and oftentimes they are not monitored as to what they watch. And all adults know what kids are seeing on a daily basis if they watch prime time television. The newspaper ad gives some startling statistics: Since television started, around 1000 studies, reports, etc. concerning the impact of TV violence have been published. The National Institute of Mental Health and several more national organizations say there is overwhelming evidence that violent entertainment causes violent behavior. An ABC network study found 22 of 34 percent of young felons imprisoned for violent crimes said they had consciously imitated techniques learned from watching TV programs. Homicide rates doubled in 10 to 15 years after TV was first introduced into specific areas of the US and Canada. In a survey of 10 to 62 percent said sex on TV influences their peers to have sex when they are too young. We join the author of that ad, Steve Allen, in begging the TV networks and sponsors to consider the massive evidence showing the damage they are doing to our young people. Stop sponsoring it. Stop making these worthless programs that send filth, sex and violence into American homes-yo- urs and mine. If the sponsors would withdraw their support, something would be done. Ad dollars make it all possible. They can put their financial support in decent, family programs. James Owens Eureka Reporter Fids James P.
