Utah law prohibits that explode, propel more than ten feet in any direction, or shoot sparks, higher than ten feet. Some illegal fireworks include: Firecrackers, bottle rockets and roman candles. There are more fires slatted by bottle rockets than by any other firework. The Utah Safety Council urges people to avoid home fireworks and to attend public firework displays. For those who plan to have home firework displays, here is a list of precautions. Never allow young children to use fireworks. Even seemingly harmless sparklers burn at 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit and can cause disfiguring bums. Follow the directions and never ignite more than one firework at a time. Establish emergency procedures before you begin. Have water handy, and teach children to "stop, drop and roll" if their clothes catch fire. As task force member Ila Rose Fife, local school board member, stated, "Guiding principles bring you together to the same type of thinking."
