Show Ufifc The Summit County Bee July 2, 1999 Senior Recognition Night Held the Knife which showed the audience her talent and ability to its Finest, Billie Sue McNeil, County read a poem Pageant written as a tribute to the Senior Generation which was written by her husband, Earl. McNeil concluded her remarks by saying "just as our ancestors set the example, each of you have shown the way, have shared smiles, helped with willing hearts and hands. Vingettes of each of you have been sketched in our minds forever with your acts of kindness, labors of love, and willing service. A striking Flag presentation was done by members of the South Summit Drill Team: Suzanne Balls, Krystal Crofts, Christine Johanson, Karen Latham, Carly Mildon, Brittanie Mitchell and Myndy Wadsworth. As the curtain was raised, the American, State and County Flags were spotlighted, alifag with the girls in their shiny outfits and standing at attention. A beautiful and moving rendition of the National Anthem was performed by "The Barber Shop Boys", Tyler Putnam, Mike Ruf, Rob Kendrick and Sorenson Wuoistcnhulme. Summit County Queen Contest Chairman, Jodie Russell, welcomed (hose who had taken the lime to attend the special evening and then introduced Miss Foust. For years, Frank was involved in running Moores Motor Company, which led to his desire for collecting Model T's. He has received many General Motor's awards and is an Lion's Gub Member. For honorary a , M i a number of years, Frank has been involved with collecting data concerning the history of Coalville, and is a member of the County Historical Society. Rosemary came from Connecticut in 1992, and has enjoyed being a "transplant, becoming active in her community of Park City, and proud to receive the Heritage Award. She attends St. Marys Church but enjoys all Churches because of the wonderful feeling she gets. Active in for the volunteer work Ambassadors, (a welcome to Park City group). If anyone needs help with a project they will generally call Rosemary. She was also the former director of the Park City Garden Club and on the Board of the Historical Society. Receiving the " Quiet Giant Award were: Mary Smith from Kamas, Beulah Willoughby from Coalville and Mel Fletcher from Park City. Mary is an active member of the Kamas Senior Citizens and is always looking for ways to improve everything about it. From cleaning the building to repairing anything broken, she is always willing to give a helping hand. Beulah was instrumental in organizing the North Summit Senior Citizen's Band in 1980, and has been active in keeping it functioning for 19 yean. As the groups pianist, she has spent countless hours and dollars in keeping the band together and performing. Her dedication and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated. Mel, who is a native of Park City has led a very active life. He ran one of the first ski schools in Park City, called Snow Park. A ski jumper at Ecker Hill, he was given the honor of being featured in "For The Love of Skiing by Allen Ehgen. Life member of the American Legion of which he is active. Currently he volunteers at the GIcnwood Cemetery North Summit Coalville llretth Center 8: North 50 East Coal ille. UT ' stage, with her bright personality shiny through, Nicole told the Seniors that she was "happy to have had the opportunity to visit at the various Senior Centers throughout the County and to meet with many of them." Believing that those present would like to be transported back in time a bit, Nicole had arranged for a group to perform s dance number entitled "The Swing". Members of the group were: Krystal Crofts and Greg Nitzuma, Myndy Wadsworth and Kendrick Woolstenhuimc, Christine Johanson and Peter Sorenson. Karen Latham and Ben Johanson, Suzanne Balls and Clayton Oucrry. Carly Mildon and Cody Edwards, Gis'elle McNeil and Cole Wadsworth. "The Barber Shop Boys" then presented two musical numbers for the audience titled "She's My Baby and "Prayer of the Children. Nicole " performed a musical number "Mac your footsteps. County Commissioner's Pat Cone and Sheldon Richins had the honor of paying tribute to and shaking the hands of the honorces of the evening, while the plaques were presented by Nicole. (Commissioner Eric Schifferli was out of town, but gave his support.) The County Board are proud of the program and were glad to participate in it for the second year in a row. The Heritage Award was presented to Reva Fitzgerald of the Frank Moore of Kamas area. Coalville and Rosemary Sweeney of Park City. Reva has held many positions in the LDS Church and has served as the Rhodes Valky Camp President of the Daughten of Utah Pioneers Organization. Secretary Woodrow Nielson was excused to go back for his 24 hour checkup after having his second eye surgery. His vision has improved considerably and will be even better when he gets Fitted with new lenses. Matjorie Smith isn't even wearing glasses since her surgery and that is good news for us to hear; We welcome Pat and Paul Petersen from Camperworld again this year. They must be from around this area originally but live in a hot place, Washington, which is near Sl George. We're glad to have them whenever they are in our area. The officers and board members held their monthly meeting Friday with Chairperson, Betty Wilde conducting. Those in attendance were: Betty, Shirley Phelps, Leah and Woodrow Nielson, Gen and Grant Geary, Willa Dcardcn and Louise Wallace. Gen will be doing the tables and activities for July. We thank Betty for taking care of them in June. The Pine VWley Outreach outing will be Aug. 12. It is fun to meet our friends from other parts of the county and last year the food was delicious. I hear we have the same cooks again this year, taken care of by the folks from Mountainlands. The raffle tickets are selling pretty good thanks to our super salesman Keith Shaw. I reported that there was three quilts but I am mistaken. There is a baby quilt, a nice tfghan and I'm not sure what the other prize is or even if it has been decided but whatever it is, it will be worth taking a chance on. Besides wc need the SSS's. Our county summer social is set for Sept. 18 at the Coalville Stake center. June Toole is in charge of the food. If all you folks over the age of 60 should attend we would probably have a big problem so lets give June a problem and be there. Denise's, Foodtown and Summit Merc aren't all that far away so I bet we can cope with anything. We have a food policy posted by the drinking fountain at the Center. This policy has been in effect for a number of years and hasn't changed now. We have been rather lax at enforcing it but now we must comply with the rules and regulations. Sorry folks, there can be no exceptions so please do not put us on the spot by ships. Member of the Park City Historical Society and organized the Park City Senior Citizens in the 1960's. She received the Heritage award last year. Nicole helped to end the evening on an upbeat note with her dance and singing routine titled "Miss Otis Regrets" which won her the State Fair Queen Contest talent award last year. Jodi expressed her gratitude to all Senior's for their example to the County, the Commission Board for their support of the program. Nicole for helping to bring the program together and all who helped in any way. "It is just incredible to be an implant in such a great community, where we can recognize (he effort of the Seniors in such a positive light. This is a great tradition that has just reached its second year and hopefully it will continue to receive more community support as it is so important." asking for one. The policy reads something like this: Food prepared at the Center is to be eaten there and is not to be taken home. They make the exception for fresh fruit, cookies and bread stuffs, nothing else. We had a grand band practice on Wednesday as they practice to vim: another Care Center real soon. Wednesday night was Summit Citizen's Senior County the at High Recognition Night School. Unfortunately, it wasnt advertised very much so wasnl very well attended. I know mote of us would have been there if we had known prior to late in that day. Three of our deserving and active Beulah members, Willoughby. Esther Brown and Frank Moore graciously received those honors. We congratulate them and thank Nicole Foust, Miss Summit County for sponsoring the awards. As we celebrate the 4th of July this weekend, I for one feel grateful for those that made this day possible and for living in America and having the freedoms that we have. A good and faithful member, she reported the events and was extremely involved in the organization. Ester is a member of the Daughters of The Utah Pioneers. She faithfully meets with a group of "quilters every week to enjoy the association while completing a worthwhile project. Active in the LDS Church, she has served two missions, one in Virginia and one in Washington, D.C She is active in the Senior Band playing the piano. Ella Sorenson is involved with historical preservation and keeping the community involved and informed in protecting and preserving the history of Park City She is a 40 year plus member of the civic and literary organization and involved with school scholar- Subscribe Ho Hbe Bee!
