Show Elementary IParfrcipatas in Annual Pioneer Day Lil to right: Aubrey Rees, Duada Making bread dough for and Stephanie Hamilton. 3 I On April 24, the fourth grade at North Summit Elementary had its annual Pioneer Day at the Coalville Park. The morning began with nine stitions run by several volunteers. At die first station, the students sat down to make quilt squares on paper would later be made into a paper quilt This station was ran by Connie Rees. Caroline Ovaid and Natalie Bunting met the' students at next station when the students their faces .painted. From there, the students learned to rope and practiced this under supervision of Diana Hamilton, the fourth station die students had chance to see how well they could im. With sponge in hand, Joan watched as the students threw ranges at certain targets. From there, they wandered over to Colleen Vernon who wa assisted by Karma Bell. Her the students had an opportunity to discover how to make butter and scones from scratch. While shaking containers of butter; the students moved obio their next Wilde. At the last station, Jeanne Lester supervised as students had an opportunity to experience an authentic pioneer game called stick pulling. Each group of students competed against each other and a group winner wu chosen. Worn out and slightly hungry, the students rested on the side of the hill while die group winners in the stick pulling contest competed against each other. Soon a winner unfolded. Stephanie Bird came in first followed, by Joshua Donaldson, Colt Ghian, JJ. Trussed, and Jamie Schuman. Then the students lined up to see if they could beat each other at it again.. One student commented, "This is actually fun." Lunch wu soon served and the students eagerly ate the delicious stop. The sixth station provided these students with the opportunity to learn how to make candles. Over and over again they clipped their wicks into hot wax and watched as odeo Team Heats p Over Weekend Student Writer: Kristal Rfchlns As I pulled up to the Davis County 'air Grounds, the sweet smell of hundreds of $1, ran wu strong & orsetrailers parked in a. giant, rassy field next to the massive & idoor arena. The rodeo wu held by ie Double D club which is a branch if die growing Spiken Rodeo Club if Ogden. This wu Double Ds first jrear to host a rodeo in which they $ lid an exceptional job. Kristal tiehma and Kristi Bkmquist ran $ole and Bands there. Kristal had tuff luck and Kristi did and job with test turn on both. All in die same weekend there is rodeo being held at LehL u Tyler Roath, Jaydee Blackburn, Kevin Clark, Kristi Blonquist, and Kristal Ricfains all participated in the Lehi Longhorn Rodeo, tyler took third in the Saddlebronc event. Jaydee had tome tough luck in the Saddlebronc event on a tough horse. Kevin Clark rode in the Bulbiding event and also had some tough luck on a bull all the cowboys were glad they didnt draw. Kristi had two good runs in poles and barrels. Kristal had some tough hick in poke with a five second penalty and did good in her barrels with a fast time and dean run. In one area they played tugofwar which wu under the control of Denise Smith and Kevin OrgilL u North Summit Boys Track Attends BYU Student Writer; Jenny Stanford 'Student Writer: Wade Sargent The boys track team attended the BYU Invitational Hack Meet on May 1. There woe 1 A and 2A Utah schools that attended the meet along with a few out of state schools. The boys track team wu able to qualify all three of their relay teams for state. The 4 by 400 team consisted of Eli Pace, Christian Peck, Wyatt Sargent and Yance Fawcett The 4 by 100 team wu Cody Staley, Jace Vernon, Christian Feck and Clint Peterson. The Medley Relay team members included Wade Sargent, Clint Peterson, Yance Fawcett, and Shane Hilton. Cody Subscribe Lady Braves Lick The Lions Staley and Justin Hemingway both qualified in the pole vault Cody cleared a height of 11 feet and Justin cleared 10 feet 10 inches. . Jace Vfemoa qualified in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet 6 inches and he also qualified in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 10 inches. 'Shane Hilton qualified in the 800 meter ran, and he also ran the two mile in an excellent time of 9-- The region meet is being held at North Summit on Friday, May 9, and the State TYack Meet will be held on May 15 and 16 at BYU, lb Ibe Chelsea Richards was up to bat, and she gave the ball a smack. Rowland Hall infielden couldnt keep track of the ball because it was going so fast over their heads. Even before the ball landed everyone could see that Richards had clearly hit a home ran. As Chelsea hit home base the Lady Braves Softball team lined up to congratulate her on her great hit. It wu only the second inning and the Braves were ahead by four points, and Rowland Hall hadnt even managed to pan second. At the bottom of the second inning the Braves got three quick outs by working together and concentrating on the balL All through the JV game . the Lady Brave were one step ahead at the Winged Lions. ' . In the last inning before the time limit wu up the Lady Braves were up to bat There were two outs and Lacey Wilde wu up to bat with the bases loaded. Coach Nield told Wilde to hit the ball the best that she could and u Wilde faced the pitcher she gave a small smile. When Wilde hit the ban ' it was just like a replay of the home " ran that Richards had hit earlier ia the second inning.
