Show Braves Baseball ' Student Writer: Josh Houck ' with St Joe. North Summit won the The North Summit Braves Vtaity first game with the score of 13-1-0. Baseball team played three games last week. on They faced Grantsville Tuesday, April 21, and battled St. Joe in a doubleheader on Friday, April 24. Grantsville was able to knock off the Breves by scoring 16 to the Braves 8 runs. Yance Fawcett went 3 for 3 in this game. The Braves split the doubleheader Kevin Louder went 3 for 3, and Kirk Rehfield batted 3 for 4 to help the Breves pick up a win. St. Joe got the best of the Braves in the second game. The Breves offense wasnt as good as it was in the previous game. The final score was 13-- 2. The Braves are currently trying to get into die playoffs by picking up another win. Cowboys Rope in The Win Music Stadeat Writer Millie Judd The weather was great on April 21, and that wu a good thing since the Lady Brava had a game. The Grantsville Cowboys traveled to Coalville to play the Braves on Tuesday. North Summit had high hopes for the game, because the last time they faced the Cowboys, it wu a pretty dose game. The vanity softball game started a little behind the scheduled time and things were in the favor of the North Cowboys. Offensively, Summit struggled to hit off of The Braves beat the Cowboys. On April 23, the Breves were up Defensively, the Braves just against the best team in Region 12 couldnt pull it together Grantsville competition, the Rowland Hall swept the game and beat the Braves Winged Lions. They had never been again. beaten them they had the same record as the Breves. The par on this course wu 37 and the course was in tough condition, and the wind was blowing hard. Derek Fox shot a 38, Nathan Olson shot a 41, Brett Black shot a 45 and Paul Jaussi shot a 47. North Summit straggled at first, but it didnt take them too toqg to get things together. They tuned things around North Summit; Deena Willoughby, North Summit; and Ben Fellows, and came back to dose the gap. Grantsville wu leading 7 to 8, but North Summit. The Braves had already beaten the Cowboys before, but this was just a practice round. The Braves played thejjback nine twice because they had sanded and aerated 1 the greens. The course wasn't in very good condition, but thejl Braves fought through it and played well Derek Fox shot a 78, Nathan Olson shot a 80, Brett Black shot a 85, and Jay Johansen and Paul Jaussi shot a 91. Tie Game Math Team Takes Snow College Math Contest Student Writer; Deena Willoughby Tuesday, April 7, the North Summit High School Math team once again climbed on the bus just after dawn, and headed down to Manti, Utah for the annual Snow College Math Contest. The two hour test was scheduled to begin promptly at ten oclock. After the test, die students were given 'an hour and a half for lunch, allowing the test administrators to grade all tests so winners could be announced at the awards assembly scheduled for one thirty p.m. The Dean of Mathematics announced the top six scorers from the small school category. All of the festivals take place during March and April during truck meets and baseball games. The North Summit Jazz Band qualified for State Jazz Band festival this year which wu held on April 3 in Park City. Bands qualify by receiving Superior ratings at Region festivals. Twenty eight bands qualified from over the state in 28 through SA categories. The North Summit band competed with Enterprise, Grand County and Monticelio High Schools. Our band received on Excellent rating which tied with Enteiprise and wu higher than the other two schools in 2A 5. ; .... ... -- el . Vi Summit Choir, schools. The students played very well on stage and had the opportunity to Sigh tread unfamiliar music in front of the State Jazz Band president, Greg Wheeler. Trumpet soloist Shane Hilton received a certificate for outstanding soloist from the State Jazz FestivaL The Bren Quintet qualified for State solo ensemble on April 25, but because of Prom and track meet con- flicts did not participate. Tfcryn Oigill qualified with her piano sola The concert band attended the Concert Band Festival of Grantsville on March 30 and received a superior rating from one judge and excellent from the other judge. They received a plaque. . The choir attended the Choir Festival of South Summit on March 25 and received excellent ratings from the judges. We had the smallest group in the region which didnt change the feet that we were complimented on the amount of good sound we produced. Several judges, well other band directors, have mentioned how many talented students we have at North Summit Thank you for supporting the music program in your u u community. Our final concert of the year will be held on May 14 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
