Crystal Robinson, Laura Smith, Chelsea Richards, Madalyn Woolstenhulme, Malar ie Richins, Kristin Williams, Jodie Brown, Lacee Wilde, Katie Rees, and Katie Trussell will be trekking through the snow everyday to go to basketball practice up at the elementary. Each team is anticipating their first game, and is getting ready by having intense practices. It will be a pleasure to see how the new coaching staff is doing with each team and the progress that they have made in their practicing. We encourage everyone to come out and support the Lady Braves Basketball team this season. Their first game is on December 3 at Union. We wish them the best of luck and hope to see you all at their first home game which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, against the Duchesne Eagles. The announcement for the Varsity team was made on the 20th of November. Angie Blonquist, Kristi Blonquist, Stacey McQueen, Deidra Kunkle, Misty Brooks, Millie Judd, Camille Fowlcs, Brooke Wilde, Julie Morrill, and Christianne Downard, all will be coached on the Varsity team by Natalie Prescott; who also coached die JV team at North Summit last year. Angie Gardner, who played for North Summit High School will be coaching the JV team. The JV team consists of: S Camille Fowles, Brooke Wilde, Julie Morrill, Christianne Downard, Carly Wilson, Jalene Richins, Reilly Richins, Rachel Paskett, and Blaire define Esonas and they will tell you that it is a dance team with sixteen total dance divas participating. The North Summit Esonas Drill team has been having grueling early morning practices as early as 6 a.m. and night practices since June that will continue until the first of February. Do their practices pay off? You bet! The Esonas are all pumped up and have their dances ready for competition. The Esonas had their first competition on November 22, 1997, in Price, Utah. They took their competition Military, Dance, Prop, and Novelty. Every college offers something different for each individual student Touring the various colleges gives the students a chance to talk to department heads and check out if their career goals coincide with the college curriculum. North Summit was awarded with a hubcap for the school by trophy case. Percentages of students wearing seat belts were found by conducting four observational surveys. The first survey showed North Summit si 24 percent and South Summit at 42 percent. North Summit increased to 34 percent for the second survey, while South Summit fell to 33 percent The third survey had both schools tied up at 44 percent. North Summit continued to increase to win at 49 percent, with South Summit dropping to 35 percent. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for high school students. The North Summit and South Summit Governor's Youth Councils encourage all students to wear their seat belts every time they ride in s car. ' Career Day Held Student Writer: Angie Blonquist North Summit FBLA Members had the opportunity to participate in "Career Day." FBLA officers contacted schools, salons, clinics and several businesses asking them if they would take part in our Career Day. .Students chose a job they were interested in and arrangements were made for the student to attend their job choice. Experiencing their career choice first hand gave the students an idea about what they want to study in college in order to achieve their career goals. There are so many decisions that students need to make about their future, and opportunities like career day help make the decisions easier. North Summit students appreciate all those who helped make this career day possible. North Summit The 1997-9- 8 wrestling season is off to a fast start under the direction of a new coaching staff. The new head coach this year is Stcpe Hamilton. Steve was a'wrestleF during his high school years and has assisted with the wrestling program at North Summit in past years. Coach Bayles, lan Warner, and Jcremey Jenkins are also helping with tlie wrestling program. . The wrestling team has pul a lot of hard work and effort into getting ready for the first tournament of the yfcar that was held on Nov. 23, at Ben Lomond High School. This will be the first home meet for the Braves, and they would love to see the gym full of enthusiastic fans. QP - ' Braves Win Seat Belt Competition Summit High Schools recently held a competition between the two schools to see which school could get a greater percentage of students wearing seat belts. North Summit ended up winning with 49 percent of students wearing seat belts. South Summit had a good showing with 44 percent of David Peck returns as the Freshman students wearing seat belts at one the point during the contest coach.
