These two young athletes will be representing all young athletes involved in winter sports from Utah. The selection process started with each National Olympic Committee being allotted a certain number of spots to the Snowlets Camp based on the number of athletes they will have competing in the winter games. The United States Olympic Committee gave, the Community Olympic Development Program the freedom to select two athletes from this area. The establishment of the Utah Winter Games was a major factor for Salt Lake City receiving the Community Olympic Development Program. So, it was only natural for die two athletes picked (each applicant was required to be an active member in a club or organization for winter sports) to be past medalists of the Utah Winter Games. Sarah is a freestyle skier and competes regularly on the Intermountain regional tour. Sarah attends the Park City Winter School. This school runs through the summer and ends the school year in November. It is designed specifically for teenagers that JM dedicate themselves to winter sports. Stan gets his thrills from going fast so what better sport is there for speed than luge. Stan lives in Salt Lake and attends Alta high school with a 3.9 GPA. Sarah and Stan will have an opportunity of a lifetime. Not only by watching and seeing what it takes to compete at the worlds largest in-. teraalional winter sporting event, but they will have the experience to interact with other youth at the camp from all over the world. Both kids have dreams of one day competing in the Olympics, and this can only put them one step closer to making that dream come true. And as for their role in the 2002 Olympics. Sarah and Stan will now have the responsibility to help bring the spirit of the Olympics right here to Salt Lake City. ii . . (In A BIG way. With At Red Barn Nursery, we l eur BIG Colorado Spruces.
