Show 1997 Flag Football Superbowl Winners Another very successful and fun year of Flag Football comes to a close. I heard a few of the Superbowl winners say that they were headed to Disneyland! Everyone had a great time and, hopefully, this program will help them prepare to be mighty North Summit Brave football players. Kicking is stressed in this league with more points being rewarded for field goals and kicking extra points. Hopefully, we'll have some great football kickers come out of this program. I've noticed the first one is doing quite well already for his high school team - Gavin Blonquist - way to go! Thanks to all the coaches for making this year great. Third-fourt- h grade: Kiit Richins. Tub Garfield, Don Donaldson, Rene Potter, Ted Paskett, and Clark Staley. .Fifth-Sixt- h Grade: Bruce Rowser, Clay Vernon, Roger Wilson, Mark Judd, and Many Pleator. Seventh-Eight- h Grade: Kelly Batt, Larry McQueen, Scott McQueen, and Jerry Pace. We also had some very good referees help us this year they were: Bonner Robinson. Kevin Clark, Vance Robinson, Kevin Louder, Cody Keetch, Bryce Gardner, Wes Brown, Adam Brown, Donny Robinson, Kyle Jones, and Mike Ison. Without referees, this league would work. Thank you! Since Manti was undefeated at the time. North Summit was determined to win, or at least give them a good game. This game took place in Manti on Sept. 30. the week of Homecoming for the Lady Braves. The bus was Hmwatfd with good luck wishes and signs from the cheerleaders reminding the players of their important game that was to lie ahead. The first match for the Lady Braves was a little rough with six missed serves that resulted in a win for the Templars. The second match the Lady Braves pulled together and as Millie Judd says, "Our team members played together. We had awesome' serves, awesome pass We were the bomb!" and the Lady Braves were truly "the bomb". The second match resulted in a win for the Lady Braves. The final game was going to be a tough one and the win was equally important to each of the teams. It was a game with intensity and with desire to win. In the third match the Lady Braves won the serve and got a head start. Soon tie Templars caught up. It was a continuous fight and rally for the score. In the end the Templars still remained undefeated as die Lady Braves fought for the win, but the Templars pre- win, and they did. After switching sides the second match began. The South Summit fans were cheering loudly and their spirit seemed to rub off on the players as they took the second match from the Braves. The intensity of the Lady Braves only increased along with the desire to win during their Homecoming week. They played harder than ever and were united in soul and mind with each other. Finally the game was over. The Lady Braves had won! The gym erupted with the North Summit High School Song. The Lady' Braves then ran off the court with a sense of accomplishment. Powder Puff Girls Get Rough When the junior and senior classes of North Summit High School gather their girls together, it proves to be a rough match. The roughest, toughest girls from the two classes got together on Oct. I to meet their match in the annual Powder Puff Football game. Each girl playing built up anticipation by attending scheduled practices for a week before the big game. Head coaches helped out the girls tremendously at all of the practices by teaching them plays, screens, and movements all associated with football. The senior's coaches were: Mike Ison, Eli Pace. Christian Peck, Steven Winters, Travis McQueen. Chris Witt, Maclaine Hamilton, and Jace Vernon. The junior's coaches were: vailed. The Lady Braves had one day to T.J. Bates, Justin Pace, and Kyler rest up and mentally prepare for the Ovard. The coaches were very pregame against South Summit on pared and worked extra hard to pre Oct. 3. JV Braves Stayin' Volleyball on a Roll Alive and Cheisea Richards, and awesome net play from Christian ne Downard, With only five games to go in the season, the JV Lady Braves Volleyball walked off Gunnison's court with another victory. The first game, the Lady Braves served six unanswered points to gain a quick lead. They kept the lead throughout the game, leading them to the win. The second game started out almost as the first game, but Gunnison's defense soon learned to dig up the serves and put the ball down on the Lady Braves side of the The crowd cheered loudly as the serve sailed over the net and hit the floor on the other side. The game ended with a score of 2 and a court victory for the Braves over the Lady Great defense by Jenny Stanford Julie Morrill, and Rachel Paskett keep the Lady Braves in the lead. Cowboys Round Up The Braves Although the JV. Sophomore, and Freshmen football teams would have liked to have brought back a victory for homecoming, they weren't able to pull it off. The three teams traveled to Granstville on Oct 2 to play the Cowboys. The JV allowed only one touchdown for the Cowboys, but the Cowboys forced a safety. They also made their extra point ending the game with a score of 9 to 0. Even though the Braves lost Coach Ruf said. "The Braves played a strong game." He also noted that Clint Peterson and Cody Staley played well. Kevin Louder did a great job, with two interceptions for the Braves. The Sophomores played well but fell short. The Cowboys took control of the field, beating the Braves 14 to 0. When game time rolled around for the Freshmen, the Braves defense could not stop the Cowboys. Lndon Judd scored the only touchdown for the freshmen, finishing the game 26 to 6. Any Dream Will Do Alumni of all ages gathered together to relive high school memories last Wednesday evening Oct I. An evening of dancing, music and singing wu enjoyed by all. North Summit Cheerleaders and the Drill team performed some great dances full of school spirit'Many of the North Summit students took part in the assembly from speeches to singing to dancing. Prom dresses, cheerleading uniforms, drill team uniforms and football uniforms new and old were modeled. Everyone who attended the assembly experienced an entertaining evening. Fired up? It's not even a question for the JV Lady Braves Volleyball Team. The spirit of homecoming traveled well, as the team filed off the bus at Manti. chanting and cheering "The Braves are 1 1" As they took the court the spirit grew stronger and everyone, even Manti's crowd, knew the Templars didn't stand a chance. The first game, the Braves stomped Manti, racking up points with excellent serves. Manti didn't give up, coming out strong the second game. They fought hard against the Braves, and came out with the victory. The third game, intensity was strong and the Braves wanted the win. With awesome hits and great defensive plays, the Lady Braves defeated the Templars, im' proving their region record to 3 wins and 6 loses. . The spirit stayed strong as the Lady Braves took the court against the South Summit Wildcats on Thursday night The Braves started off strong, taking the lead 11-Then the Cats came out to play, and the Braves couldn't dig up their serves. The Cats came back, now only behind by two. The Braves and the Cats rallied for points. The Cats took the game after an awesome comeback. The second game, th Braves were determined not to let the Can into the game, and the final score proved their plans, 13-- 3 for the Lady Braves. 0. The third game, South Summit wasn't about to give in. They started off sewing 11 unanswered points, mostly bff service aces. But the Braves fired up and rallied for ' the points, making a comeback. The Cats went home with the victory, but the JV Lady Braves kept the Brave's Spirit alive by playing one of the most intense games of their season. |
