When youre riding a long losing streak lilns the Wildcats you look for as much good news as you can find, and this week's good news is the running game. On Park City's home turf Sep. 2S the Wildcats slipped to 0-- 5 on the season in this against a 3A opponent, but not before they showed off a powerful running game. The Miners may have won the war 17-- 6, but the Wildcats won a lot of trench battles by pounding out a total of 14S rushing yards on 24 carries. There are a lot of NFL teams who would crave the Wildcat average of 6 yards per carry in this game! Fullback Alan McNeil, South Summit's "Big Cat," led the charge as he punished the Miners up the middle all afternoon. He was non-regi- te Miners were driving toward the goal rolling up big yardage .numbers through gaping holes punched in the Miner defense by his offensive line. Halfbacks Dusty Leavitt and . Jake Crystal also packed the pigskin for big gains. The offensive line is anchored by center Sam Aplanalp, with lots of help from his friends -- - guards Jeff Beer and Steve Goates and tackles John Stevens and Brent Ure. They also provided ample protection for the passing game, giving up only two sacks of their quarterback, Joe line in the first quarter, but return was called back on a controversial interference call . : t ' Dave Aplanalp and hit son Sam got "up close and personal'' after the game with the official who threw that flag. He picked up a school record 243 yards rushing and two touchdowns against the Cats' defense. There are plenty of opinions and lots of blame floating around Kamas about this year's Wildcats. But hang in there loyal Wildcat fans these guys are going to make some noise before 'jt's all over. They may be the best winless team in Utah right now. They head south to Gunnison for a region dontest ocseiuth of that first elusive win oozing with that ultimate intangible potential. Leavitt's Goates. Andrea McNeil cooked up some steaks for the offensive linesmen at the JV and freshman games the night before. It had to be the steaks. They are really starting to put if all together now. Dusty Leavitt had springs in his legs when he went high into the air to snag a clean interception as the 30-ya- rd The mighty Ladycat Tennis team went to prove their stuff at the Region Tennis Tournament on the Sept 30. The tournament was held at the Salt Lake Swim and Tennis u dub. The Cats left at 6:30 a.m. to make the trip to Salt Lake. After the coaches seeding meeting, the Ladycats were rebdy to take the court Coach Nan Peterson chose the following players to represent the team: Amanda Olsen at first -- single, Tiffany Thomas as second singles, and Meredith Maynes in the third singles slot Playing doubles were Bethany Mitchell and at second. Weller The warm sun turned hot as the Ladycats played throughout the day. At the end of the struggles, only one Ladycat wu left standing. Tiffany Thomas won enough matches to qualify for the State Tournament The rest of the Cats played hard and represented South ' State. S.S.
