Show 4A The Svinmit Comfy Boo Friday, December 9, 1994 Senior News South Summit Senior Citizens Senior Citizens by Louise Wallace We only had one meeting Thanksgiving week and time slipped by so quickly that I didnt get a report done. Hope you missed hearing about our activities. We think we have a petty good club by Margaret Roberts, George Bryson, and Grant Geary. Delia read a card from Betty it with very special people in LaVon and George Wall celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. They felt so good about it that they furnished the dessert on Nov. 23. Lynn led the singing in their honor. Both look real good. Elsie Oswald and Myrla Vernon both had eye surgery recently. We hope to hear that Elsie's vision has improved as much as Myrlai has. Glad that Lee Atkins is home again. She is at 16 instead of 17 at the home of her daughter for the time being. We send our sympathies to Grace and Tom Price and Grace's sisters, Benon Farrell, Blanche Downaid, and Edna Dearden over the loss of their loved one. ' It was nice to have Eleanor Morby home from her travels and we did enjoy the candy she brought Our taste for sweets was nicely satisfied as Lonnie and Mary Jacobson also treated us with chocolates. President Delia Griffith and Vice Our cooks, Brook and Laura, are getting prepared to feed a bunch of us but they would kind of like to know in advance just how many there will be so please do let us know if you plan on attending. We can start this holiday season with the happy occasion of attending the birthday Open House for Willa Dearden. (Wow, Willa, 80 already.) Its in Henefer on Dec. 16. She doesn't want your presents but she does want your presence. You should see the colorful bedspread Pat Anderson is finishing fix' her daughter. I offered to let her adopt me if she would make one for me too but she just ignored the President Grant Geary were making sure we all had something to do. Delia conducted the meetings, and Secretary Woodrow Nielson read the minutes. Prayers were offered . Wilde and Lorraine Garfield who are in Arizona and enjoying the sunshine. Betty will be back soon but I'm not sure if Lorraine is down there for the winter or not She read thank you cards from Margaret Sargent,, and one from Imogene Siddoway. Imogene won the lovely quilt at our raffle. It really is nice, and we are very proud of our nifty stitchers. Margaret Roberts has heard from Ruth Taylor, and Gen Geary has talked to Betty and Charles Dahlin. Jhey all send their love. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Center. hint LaVon Wall recited a poem she has written about her memories of past holidays. That was to get us in the mood to report our own recollections and help her finish her assignment (volunteered) with The Bee. She needs your thoughts by Pat Anderson' and her crew of helpful elves have done a bang up job of making the place look festive and gay. Sure will give our Christmas Party on Dec. 21 a holiday flavor. Lynn Anderson is working up a real nice program, and well have Dec. 10. What are we grateful for? Among other things, I personally am grateful for the rain that took the snow off the roof. Now I believe I am ready for the next snow to come. How about you? Well be having a New Years potluck social on Dec. 31, and we want to remind everyone that we are accepting the dues which are due in January 1993. They are $3 a year. activities after that so plan on spending the day with us. Senior Companion Program Needs Donations The Senior Companion Program is in need of local donations to strengthen their transportation program. Basic funding comes from the Corporation for National Service, but local contributions sre . necessary to meet travel needs. The Senior Companion Program in Wasatch County is serving 30 seniors who are frail or alone and want to remain independent and in their own homes. Senior Companions help with things around the house or help solve problems or transport to the doctor, or just sit and visit Those who serve as Senior Two widowers were talking while they were playing pool. One Companions receive several bene- fits. First is the satisfaction of serving others. Other benefits include an hourly stipend for those that qualify, reimbursement, mileage and an annual physical. Senior Companions save the federal government a lot of money. It takes about $2,000 per month to take care of a person in a rest home. It only costs about $260 per month to fund Senior Companion. of them wishes for a wife for Christmas. Well maybe some days were not so wonderful, but the stories we heard of teachers who cared, and even helped us with our problems after school hours, were vividly expressed at Cumorah's Reminisce" program. who spoke of their memories at school were mpre than grateful for the lessons taught, but the walk home was sometimes a bit long. The Kamas Valley seems to have been blessed with great educators. Our blood pressure days will now be the second Thursday of each month. Please mark your calendars. Please call Mona if you would like to take the bus trip around the valley to see the Christmas decorations. So good to see Cinthy back again, and May is no longer snowbound, glad die was here to see Afton and June decorate our Christinas tree to perfection. It looks lovely.
