Show 2A Tho Summit County Boo Friday, Docombor 9, 1994 Pam's Place red, blue, pink with gold, and ones being the most multi-color- I had my column all written and changed my mind which I do often. My thoughts kept returning to my involvement with the Festival of The Trees" held recently at what is left of the Salt Palace. On Saturday, my hubby and I were two of many host and hostesses who used. Having attended the affair from start to finish this year was really interesting, and I was amazed once again at how many great people there are in the world who are willing to give up a portion of their time to help others. On the decorating day, everyone comes in with supplies of every type imaginable, were helping at this big event. What an extremely satisfying and interesting experience that was. There are certainly a lot of people who attend this annual event to set wearing comfortable clothes so they can pitch right in to get things done. The board members and leaders are so helpful and informative and keep things moving along. On off their holiday celebration. Many young adults attend the event as date night fun. No matter what your preference for trees is, a person could not attend without finding at least a dozen listed as movies. Western and Fourth wooden decorations and articles was popular this year, as were bears and Santa themes from the variety to the modern usage with the jolly old man sitting in a sleigh. To the surprise of many (myself included) there was one which hung suspended from the ceiling and was decorated upside down. With the many beads and gold lights, it shimmered like a chandelier and was simply beautiful. Lights on the trees included Tell Me About let your tree stand go dry. A seal of dried sap will form over the cut stump in four to six hours if the water drops below the base of the tree, preventing the tree from absorbing water later when the tree stand is refilled. If a seal selecting a tree: 1. Do a freshness test Gently grasp a branch between your thumb : ' and forefinger and pull it towards you. Very few needles should come off in your hand if the tree is fresh. Take a look at the ground around .the tree. You shouldnt see an excessive amount of green needles on the ground. Some loss of interior brown needles is normal and will occur over the lifetime of the tree. 2. Once youve chosen your tree, keep it in a sheltered, unheated area such as a porch or garage to protect it from the wind and sun until youre ready to decorate it 3. Before you set up your tree, make a fresh, straight cut across the base of the trunk (about a half inch up from the original cut) and place the tree in a tree stand that holds two or more quarts of water. Caring for your real tree does form, another fresh cut will need to be made. ' A tree will absorb as much as a gallon of water in the first 24 hours and one or more quarts a day thereafter. Water is important because it prevents the needles from drying and the boughs from drooping. 4. In addition, keep your tree away from heat and draft sources like fireplaces, radiators, and television sets. Test your light cords and connections before hanging them on the tree to make sure they're in good working order. You dont want to use cords with cracked insulation or broken or empty sockets. Also, be sure to unplug lights before you go to bed or leave the house. Sensible precautions such as these will help preserve the unique beauty and tradition that only a real ifc easy.
