Thats why now is a good time tp talk about fire safety and home winterization. October is National Fire Safety Month. There is good reason for this. Its the time when people start to crank up the home heat sources, the furnace or gas fireplace, and the wood burning stove. While we enjoy these conveniences, they also mean an increase in home firm. Did you know that about every 44 seconds, a fire strikes a home in the United States. In Utah, during 1993 for instance, there were 7,368 reported fires. These fires earned 174 injuries, 13 deaths and over $32 million dollars worth of damage. Most home fires resulted from thoughtlessness. The easiest way to prevent fires is to keep heat and fuel sources apart You can do feat by following these suggestions: If you smoke, use smoking materials properly. Never smoke in bed. Draw up a home plan; identify at least two exits from every room in your home. Conduct a drill every six months. Make sure everyone takes part in the drill, including little children, older adults, and people fire-esca- symptoms as nausea, headaches, sleepiness, and a feeling of exhaustion. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends installing at least one of these detectors per household.
