Volleyball Team Beats NS for State Champion by Kristy Casper Another New Teacher in the NS Middle School By North Summit's first match was against Salt Lake Lutheran in which they lost the first game, followed by a win, then another loss. North Summit's next match was against South Summit to decide which of the two teams would go to State. It was another loss, win, and the Braves were defeated with another loss... a terribly disappointing way to end the season. North Summit, Intermountain Christian School, Salt Lake Lutheran, South Summit, Wasatch Academy, and Wendover high schools participated in the Region Volleyball Tournament held at North Summit Wednesday, Oct. 20, to determine the six teams that would go to the State Championships. Rich placed first; Manilla, second; Wendover, third; Salt Lake Lutheran, fourth; Intermountain Christian School, fifth; and South Summit, sixth. These teams will be competing with other schools for the State Championship titles. by Jordan Louder On Oct. 20 the hungry Wildcats entered the territory of the humble Mustangs. The Mustangs who have been plagued with bad luck this year were looking for a big win during this last week of the regular season. The Wildcats, who on the other hand have had a successful season, were still hungry for a win. The Wildcats were trying to continue their winning streak and executed their offensive plays with ease. The Mustangs were proud but could not stop the powerful ground attach of the Wildcats. The Cats were led by the lineman who were supported by great plays by the running backs and receivers. The Wildscore at half time was 34-0, cats. The second half was played by the J.V. who scored an additional 10 points to leave the score at the end of the game at 59-0. Good luck to the Wildcats as they enter the first round of the play-off- s. The girls were disappointed, but are excited for next year. The girls did their best and we appreciate their hard work this season. Red Ribbon week was observed this week at the South Summit Schools. The doorway of the elementary was the first clue that this week was unique. Red ribbons were tied to the door handles to remind everyone to say "No to drugs. Special attention in classes, through activities, were implemented in the school curriculum to educate the children on the ill effects of drugs. A big push was given for ways to say "No" when drugs are offered. Each elementary student made posters illustrating how drugs are bad for their bodies. A special judging was held and results were given in a special assembly on Thursday.
