Accumulating more items than she could ever use, she put a few in a display case and was pleasantly surprised when they sold out within two days. So a new department was added to the business. Now, all kinds of homemade goodies may be found in that back room boutique. Business has since picked up at the gas and grocery back There is an intriguing room" in the Grahams corner grocery on Spring Hollow Road, Francis. Native Utahns, Melva Graham and husband Vem, have called Francis home for the past 18 years. A one time secretary in Heber City, Melva was looking for a much needed change so the couple purchased the store in Francis and commuted from Heber where Vem worked at the post office. Since Vera's retirement, theyve resided conveniently adjacent to their business. and regular clients include locals who stop by enroute to summer cabins as well as others making frequent treks from as far as California. The demand now exceeds Melva's ability to supply enough goods herself, so she employs local seamstresses and crafters who supplement income by doing custom work in their own homes. Melva supplies the patterns, but often uses other people's ideas if she finds them marketable. Prominent among the eyecatching array are the beautiful quilts, which are usually done by a single worker; unlike the colonial counterparts which were worked on by many hands and differences in stitches could often be easily detached. Melva designs and customizes her quilts to order, prices depend on intricacy of pattern and size. If you're into country, the back room has it all from Victorian handmades laden with lace, ribbons, roses and bows, to tole painted whatnots. Melva and Vera have one son, Brad, and a daughter, Jackie, who manages a branch shop in Park City. The gals collaborate in buying and stocking inventory, but Jackie specializes in appli-que- d sweatshirts. Generally, the shop features gifts for year round occasions, but now Melva's elves have stocked the boutique with many seasonal items. Its an excellent time to stop, browse and purchase Christmas gifts, eliminating the usual hassel with traffic and crowds. And while youre at it, meet your neighbor! (Mrs. Melva T. A very special day for our Thanksgiving dinner. It was a chilly, frosty morning that greeted our seniors. They came early to get in a few card games and visiting before our entertainment came. The Rhythm Rascals arrived at 10:15 already to go. Our President welcomed them warmly and helped them get set up and ready to go. Arnold Hunt was the spokesman for the group. .He introduced a new member, a gal named Ruby. Although she has lost her sight, she is 'very talented. She sang and played the guitar beautifully. Elmer Rasmussen, with his dry wit, is an asset to the group. And, of course, we love to hear Da Cornell play her guitar aQd yodel. Earl Bagley always has a humorous reading for us. With their guitars, violins, and harmonicas, they soon had the room filled with clapping hands and tapping toes. They played and sang for us until lunch time. They took requests.
