South Summit Wildcats, took on the Kanab Cowboys in Richfield on Friday November 8. All that both teams wanted was to clinch a semi-finwin and a chance for the state championship. And it showed! This Ion brought the spirit of the Cats down, because they could no longer place higher than sixth. But by 4:30 that same afternoon the Cats were psyched and ready for the game against Salt Lake Lutheran, the Lynx. The Cats didn't play one of their better games, but spiked it often and the Lynx couldnt return it. The Cats defeated the Lynx in two games 15-Helping the Cats to this victory were spikers Sheri Peterson with 12, Margaret Weller with 7, and 5, Anna Street with 6. Winning the set against S.L.L. meant the Cats had to win two more sets and' they, would take consolation (6th). The rest of the day the Cats watched the other volleyball games and had a great time having mousse and shampoo fights. Saturday morning the Cats first match was against the Parowan Rams. Parowan had watched the Cats play on Friday and thought they would have no problem defeating the Cats. The Cats had a different story for the Rams because the Cats were determined to shqw them how well they could play. In the first game against the Rams the Cats started off slow letting the Rams get six quick points. With great serves from Margaret Weller, the Cats soon caught up and The Cats passed the Rams kept spiking the ball and held on to their lead, defeating the Rams The second game started out much hotter for the Cats with Nici Headrick setting the ball and Tricia spiking it, getting three quick points. The Cats continued spiking the ball. The two teams 14-1- Cats. Nici served it, the Rams set it up and dinked it, catching the Cats offguard. Fortunately a great save by Sheri Peterson sent the ball back into Rams territory; the Rams sent it back to the Cats, and an excellent set by Margaret Weller and spike by Tricia Rockhill sent the ball back to the Rams, dropping in a hole making the score 3 for the mighty The S.S.volleyball Wildcats. team played better than they had any game in the state tournament, and were now one game away from consolation. Spikers for the Parowan game were Sheri Peterson with 13, Anna Street with 8, Tricia Rockhill with 7. The consolation game started at ' 5:30, against Monticello. The Cats had a major problem with their serving which gave Monticello two quick wins. The South Summit volleyball team ended up taking 8th place. Many of you probably think that unless a team takes 1st place they aren't very good, but I am really pleased with the volleyball team this year taking 4th and Region Tournament and 8th in State. It is the first in about six years that a Smith . Summit .volleyball team has. even PLACED at state," commented S.S. volleyball coach Pam Klekas.
