What is a prevention education group? Attorney-Rober- The 9 women 3 man jury agreed with the prosecutions largely circumstantial evidence, that Friday April 27, 1984, Judge Philip Fishier took under advisement the States request that Wesley Tuttle be sentenced to death for the murder of Sydney Ann Merrick. Tuttle was the man seen towing Ms. Merrick up Parleys Summit the afternoon of Monday September 26. Ms. Merrick's body was found later the same day, lying in her car, the victim of multiple stab wounds. Tuttle was found guilty in the third district court of Summit Countv. Wednesday, April 25, . . : ' Summit County prosecuting Adkins requested 1984,' of murder in the first degree. - t the death penalty. Defense attorney, Kenneth Brown presented numerous witnesses testifying to Tuttle's demeanor and personality as a gentle and undecaring, monstrative. Brown stated that Tuttles past record did not indicate a history of battery or torture, those aggrava ting circumstances that indicate the death penalty as appropriate. Judge Fishier said he could "not now set a specific date on which I will announce the decision." A person wants to be certain beyond a reasonable doubt. Regardless of my decision, Mr. Tuttle and Mr. Brown have to live with it for a long time. He then recessed court until Tuesday, May 7, at 9:00 a.m. County Courthouse, Coalville, Utah. Her articles have been most enjoyable and very well written. We will miss her precise and accurate reporting of the news, especially the county news; We hope she will . ntinue to cover some of the ppenings that she has been in on from the very start and has a good understanding of what is going on. Louise is a very talented lady and has decided- 4q put her . time and efforts into other endeavors. For you that dont know, she draws blueprints for new home and condo buildings and is also a very good artist. We wish her the very best of luck in whatever she puts her hands to. Shirley is the daughter of Reed and lone Brooks and was born and raised in Hqytsville, Utah. She and her brother Jack and sister Reeta and family were educated at North Summit School District where she graduated from North Summit. While attending school she excelled in Band, PepClub, Chorus and Business. She is married to George A. Phelps and the mother of three children: Lois McQueen, Larry Phelps and Carol Phelps, and as you remember in one of her recent articles, she is also a very proud grandmother. ' She is going to be making some fine changes in the paper which will take effect immediately, one of which will be featuring town news again. The Arthritis Foundation Campaign raises funds for arthritis research and House-to-Hous- e public and patient education. Arthritis affects 240,000 Utahns. Seventy-eigh- t percent of the money raised goes directly to research and education. Volunteers are essential to the Arthritis Foundation's fight against the more than 100 forms of arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. Most forms of arthritis have no known cure; however, much can be done to control pain, keep joints moving freely and prevent further joint damage caused by the disease. Guest speakers are Gene and Sandi Ercanbrack. They will speak on drug abuse. Six Summit County residents have been appointed chairmen for the 1984 Utah Arthritis Foundae tion Campaign. Chairmen from Summit County are: Nelda Stapels, Coalville; Carmen Prescott, Francis; Mary Fawcett, All Summit County Property Owners are encouraged to control Musk Thistle and other noxious weeds on their property. The Summit County Weed Dept, will not be offering custom spraying this year. In order to assist landowners in weed control, the Department has available spray units for landowners' use at no cost. Now is the time to begin spraying for effective and cost efficient 2 or for further control. Contact Tim Richins, information. COALVILLE STAKE NEWS Fireside A Fireside will be held May 6 at 5:00 p.m. at the Coalville Stake Center. Don and Karen Sims, who were victims of the 1983 Farmington mud slide will speak. They will tell what they did last year and would do to be prepared in the event of another slide. Everyone is invited. GARDENING CLASSES Gardening Classes sponsored by the USU Extension Service will be held, beginning May 9, for three weeks with the final class being held on the 23rd of May. Locations and times for the classes are as follows: Coalville area - Commissioners Room in the Summit County Courthouse 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Park City area - Park City Memorial Bldg. - 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. There will be a S10.00 fee for printed material. SAFE DRINKING WATER The Utah Safe Drinking Water Committee has awarded a Certificate of Commendation to Peoa Pipeline Company and the Hoytsville Pipeline Co. in recognition of outstanding operation and management of its water system. This is a most notable achievement as evidenced by the Governors signature! To be eligible, each system must serve less than 3,000 people and have had a maximum of two violations hi 1981 and 1982 and have no violations from January cl 1983 through January of 1983.
