Show The Summit County Bee Coalville, UT 84017 Friday, April 20, 1984 4A South Summit Wildcats FFA Member is in Regional Award Competition Tresa Thompson of Kama and a member of the South Summit FFA Chapter took another step toward National recognition in the FFA Forest Management Proficiency Award Program recently when her application was submitted for regional competition. The Award Forest Management sponsored by Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation of Tacoma, Washington and the General Fund, Madison, Wisconsin is one of 22 FFA Proficiency Awards recognizing FFA members for achievement in activities leading to careers in agriculture. Tresa was presented a $100 check as the State FFA Forest Management Proficiency Award winner during the State FFA Convention. Tresa's application will compete against other state winners for one of the four nationwide regional awards. Only one regional winner will be selected from each of the four FFA administrative regions. The four regional winners in Forest Management will receive a plaque, a $250 check and partially ' to the paid travel expenses National FFA Convention. Should she be named regional winner, Tresa will travel to the National FFA Convention in Kansas City this Novemeber where a panel will judge the regional Forest .Management winning applications to select the National winner. The winner of the National Forest Management Proficiency Award will be presented a plaque and a check for $500 at the National FFA Convention in November. Juniors Get All Fancied Up The Junior Class of South Summit High School presented their Junior Prom on Friday, April 6, 1984. The Prom theme this year was Almost Over You. The new gym was beau'ifully decorated with white, yellow, and orange plastic. The whole gym was draped with the plastic to give it a effect. For two and a half days all the Juniors reputed o the gym for decoration dirty. There was almost always a job for everyone. Plastic had to be cut, stapled, and hung; orange flowers had to be made and stapled; name cards for Juniors were made and remade; hemming was done around the bottom edges of tiie plastic; the mural had to be drawn; props and picture scenery were set up; and last but not least was clean-u- p detail. The mural was mostly drawn by J. Michael Crank and DeLain Atkinson. It was a silhouette of a tree against a background of mountains and a sunrise. It was a chance for everyone to get dressed up in their new formats and tuxedos. We hope everyone, other than the Juniors, enjoyed the Junior Prom. after long practices involving the Juniors, several Seniors, and Mrs. Page. There was only one week in which to practice and considering this, the Prominade was extremely well performed.
