development ot of brigham rigl larn city unanimously bously decided last thursday evening at the meeting called tor for the ne purpose of discussing the matter that thai the big field shall be drained and all the marsh lands now producing only enly bull rushes and salt grass as well as the pasture lands shall be made to add their proportion to the wealth of this community the spirit of the meeting was most harmonious in fact most unanimous lor for all present were of one mind relative to the project proposed and as a result a committee of five consisting cf C W knudson Knud aon as chairman geo gen U D reeder john E B matalas Mat hlas wm jeppson and B D C call was appointed with full foil power to arrange all preliminary steps to get the matter read ready Y tor for th the county commissioners to pass upon p and declare the section indicated by this committee a drainage district the meeting was called to order by attorney B C call who aho has done considerable preliminary work in getting getling the land surveyed and gathering data on ule the matter of draining and mr 0 W knudson was named as chairman with victor E madsen as secre secretary tarT county surveyor H C carver who made the initial survey and drew a map of the country was called to give his report and be outlined his findings at some length ile he gave figures on en elevation from froin a point just north ot of the old creamery to the farthermost western part of the district which is under tinder question and the total fall is vor something like 35 feet ll 11 lie stated that the tall fall to the north carver stated that the rich black loam runs in depth from 3 to 7 feet and then nearly fades out along the edge of the for ar western part of tile the district he declared that the soil is of such richness that it will produce almost any ady kind of a crop without fertilizing relative to the fall in the big slough gli sir air carver stated that the only appreciable drop was at a point west of 0 of at the right time and the thing to do now is to inaugurate the drainage system this sentiment was determined by the remarks of those who took part in the discussion and the hearty ap voiced in the applause which each speaker received when the matter came to a vote the motion that it be the sense of the meeting that a drainage district be created out of the lands lying northwest and south of tile the city went through with a whoop expressions pres were made by land holders in the harper district and it was pointed out that they ought to bo be included 11 a the district and thus reclaim the entire submerged area along the foot hills bills A second motion that a committee be appointed by the chairman to attend to all the preliminaries carried and the chairman asked that the house same to tile the matter of bringing the hammond canal on to brigham and he was requested to enlighten those present as to the possibilities and just where the ditch could be brought to which he be did and the meeting unanimously passed a resolution asking the representatives of the salt lake security trust co to make a canvass of the property owners who would come under the extension and obtain from them a statement as to how much water they will purchase then report the matter to the owners of the canal backed up by the action of the meeting request lag that the east lateral be extended for water acreage while others who had no land to irrigate subscribed teems teams and men toa in constructing the ditch the sentiment of the meeting was that by all means the hammond canal should ho ha brought on to this city the matter of a site for the new sugar factory was brought up but action was deferred as to permanently locating it forthe reason that none present knew juat where the sugar company wants it put after the close of the meeting those present affixed their names to a hastily drawn up petition accompanied by the number of acres each has in the drainage district asking the
